“You’re weird,” Dazai states with a small smile, spinning and sitting himself on the log beside Chuuya. “I’m going to keep you.”
Chuuya tries to fight it. Dazai can tell. He’s holding it back. Eventually he can’t stop it, and Chuuya snorts a stifled laugh.
“The hell? What’s that supposed to mean?” he questions with a poorly hidden smile.
Pity is pathetic. Dazai’s gotten plenty of it from people who won’t even bother to see him as anything other than a tragedy. But Chuuya’s pity doesn’t really feel that bad. His abrasiveness and inconsistent perspective seems to be balancing it out well enough that Dazai means it.
What better way to get to know an animal than by keeping it as a pet?
So, Dazai’s decided. From now until he kills himself in two months, Chuuya is going to be his.
