Thorin’s hand is forced into finding a Consort. Potential suitors must prove themselves through gift giving. Thankfully a pining Bilbo has a project he’s been working on for months that will hopefully stop his beloved dwarf from marrying another.
Thorin's glare was redirected to him. "Is it so absurd to imagine me with a spouse?" His voice was bitter.
Jealousy curdled in Bilbo's gut. It was not absurd, Bilbo had imagined it countless times, but with him as Thorin's husband. However, he couldn't say that, could he? It was obvious Thorin was looking for something, someone, else.

[ Fíli wasn't a bad cop - that somehow made it worse, because it meant he was there to stay. one of the youngest uniforms to get promoted in… hell, in a long time. Dwalin didn't keep a calendar, but he was sure he'd remember if he saw another sprout like that running around the bullpen. and he got the position for reasons other than his uncle being the captain, contrary to a circulating rumor. he was infuriatingly competent. quick on his feet, a real fucking sharpshooter and smart to boot (though he either wasn't aware of that or deliberately hid it most of the time. whichever made Dwalin more annoyed at him when he acted like an idiot).
it was just everything else about him that got on Dwalin's nerves. ]
Dwalin, a police lieutenant, gets his best friend's and captain's rookie nephew assigned to be his partner. to his great dismay, Fíli is bloody good, unfairly hot… and glued to his phone.
or: five times Dwalin thought Fíli's social media obsession was stupid and one time he didn't.
