“Then I think this could be a very good opportunity for the both of you, Simon. Even if this relationship doesn’t progress or last, it could help you refamiliarize yourself with the civilian world. It could help you get in touch with yourself.”
He looks at the windows, watches the wind and the rain rattle the glass in its frame. Shoddy military construction. Just like everything around here, including himself.
“That’s why I didn’t text her back the first time.”
Dr. Cadden crosses one of her legs over the other. Ghost flicks his ashes and sighs. If tapping her pencil is brainstorming, this is her planning for war.
A bullet through the roof of his mouth may have been dramatic, but damn if it wouldn’t have been easier.

It is on a grimy, hay-covered stone and dirt floor that he falls into the arms of the newly named Ser Duncan the Tall and takes his last breath. In that distant world, the Targaryen family falls to ruin in the aftermath of his passing, and not even the fabled Prince that Was Promised can reclaim the might of their family name.
But that world is not this one.
For instead of the Prince of Dragonstone receiving a sundering blow to the helm, it is Aerion “Brightflame” who suffers the wound instead.
