Ah, there it is. The ugly head of his insecurities rising from where it slumbers, deep within the confines of his heart. No matter how far he goes, how much he achieves, how happy Tanjirou says he makes him, he's not strong like a Kamado, he's not worthy.
“Zenitsu.” Tanjirou's voice is soft and his eye full of adoration when Zenitsu looks up. He probably expected this reaction. “You're part of my family too. It's your heirloom as much as mine.”

That single question echoes in Zenitsu's head. They are there to pick up flowers for the girls, not to talk about stuff like this.
But the question is simple to answer, nevertheless. He knows what he wants to say, but isn't sure if it will be enough.
And Tanjirou knows what he wants him to say and why he's asking Zenitsu that, but he isn't brave enough to say it out loud.
Trust. Heartbreak. Friendship. Love. Tanjirou only wants Zenitsu to hear his thoughts. Zenitsu doesn't want to let go of him.
