Sonya is pacing her bedroom. She keeps thinking she’s going to call the party off and then she sees Coley and she knows she can’t. Every time she turns to continue the path she’s surely going to wear into her carpet and sees Coley she knows she has to go to that stupid party. She can face it, as long as Coley is with her.
“Sonya,” Coley calls out when Sonya has paused in her tracks for too many beats. “It’s okay.”
“No, Coley, I don’t know if I can do it,” Sonya says, looking at the wall in front of her instead of at Coley. She folds too easily.
Sonya shuts her eyes. She hears rather than sees Coley walk towards her. Gentle hands grab hers and Sonya shuts her eyes. “No more running,” Coley says, lifting their hands up between them.
