"The Shack had texture. Life ran all throughout in scars and trails, chipped dishes and wooden surfaces with the grain worn smooth. A few weeks ago she opened a kitchen cupboard to grab a cup, and a live possum fell out.
Pacifica recalled the sterile tile of her parents’ parlor, the steam-pressed curtains with perfect edges in her meticulous bedroom. In comparison, the Shack breathed and sang. She felt like a cat whose fur was pet against the grain.
But staring up at the creature of a house, nothing but pines and gray evening skies behind her, where else could she go?"
(Pacifica gets kicked out, and can only think to go to the Mystery Shack. Her friends' annoying old uncle is surprisingly helpful.)

Fiddleford uncurled himself and looked Ford in the eye. “Death.”

The woman's mind was like a scanning bird of prey, Csevet thought exhaustedly as she tottered out of the chair to look at his bookshelf. Pinned one topic and only let it go when it was in its death throes, then leapt instantly off to murder another.(csevet and csethiro have three main things in common: pakh'palar, popular literature, and purpose. not necessarily in that order.)

Summary
Things have been tense at home since Dr. Frank Langdon came back from rehab, and 2 months after getting back to work, the tension snaps. Abby is staying with her parents, claiming she needs space after their recent argument, and Frank is left alone in a too-quiet house, trying to figure out where it all went wrong. Thankfully, friends both new and old are by his side to help shed some light on buried issues and unchallenged misconceptions.
AKA, Langdon is still working on getting back up after rehab when his marriage starts falling to pieces around him. However, with a little help and guidance, he might just discover something new about himself in the rubble.
