Pacifica recalled the sterile tile of her parents’ parlor, the steam-pressed curtains with perfect edges in her meticulous bedroom. In comparison, the Shack breathed and sang. She felt like a cat whose fur was pet against the grain.
But staring up at the creature of a house, nothing but pines and gray evening skies behind her, where else could she go?"
(Pacifica gets kicked out, and can only think to go to the Mystery Shack. Her friends' annoying old uncle is surprisingly helpful.)
