    Summary

On a perfectly average Tuesday night – as far as any night can be called perfectly average anymore nowadays – the sky goes pitch black above Manhattan, a violent storm rattles the roofs, vivid blue and purple lightning bolts illuminate the clouds.
Once it is over, as suddenly as it began, news trickles in of difficult-to-explain phenomena occurring worldwide: The statue of liberty has changed color to a bright pink, an exact replica of the great wall of China has appeared across the Sahara desert, it rains feathers in Copenhagen for several hours, every single stapler on Sumba Island turns into a coat hanger, and Tony Stark wakes up from an impossible-to-wake-up-from coma.

This was it: the last major stretch to the big leagues. V was almost at the finish line, nearly accomplishing everything she had worked so hard for. All that was left was to complete this last mission, given by a mysterious figure who goes by the name Mr. Blue Eyes.
Except, when that same mission unravels into something entirely new: new world, new problems, and a new resident in her head, will she make it? Or will her luck and sanity run out?

For as long as internet fanfiction culture has existed, the trope of a modern girl falling into the world of Middle-earth has been part of it.

Some love her, some hate her (Fanlore, 2025). But no one can deny the permanent impression the Modern Girl has made on LOTR fanfiction as a whole.

This guide was written for all the fans who have at some point wished for their own adventure in Middle-earth, as well as a heartfelt thank you to all the authors who have sent their OCs on amazing journeys for our entertainment.

1960s New York. The space race is real, but the Baxter Building is chasing something stranger than orbit.

Dr. Claudia Montrowe is not part of the team, not officially. She's a theoretical physicist with a reputation. She stays out of the spotlight, and she certainly doesn’t have time for Johnny Storm’s charm—or whatever it is he thinks he’s doing. But he keeps showing up anyways.

He jokes. She deflects. He pushes. She pretends not to feel it.

The others treat her like part of the team. Reed counts on her. Sue keeps her close. Ben makes her laugh when no one else can. And Johnny… Johnny won’t stop circling her, no matter how cold she plays it.

The launch is coming, and the rules are shifting. What will Claudia do with Johnny now that she can’t get rid of him.

    Summary

You thought you knew what love was. It was cold, sterile, completely pragmatic in its application. A tender stroke of a hand when the pain became too much to bear, and praise when you had performed an experiment well enough to earn your parents the accolades of their colleagues. For over twenty years, you were raised by your adoptive family, traveling the galaxy to convention after convention, experiment after experiment where you thought you understood your lot in life. To love and to love, only to receive crumbs in return.

In a great display, and the equivalent of said crumbs embedding themself into your skin when laid on them too long, your sister sent you off on your own. To grant your dreams, she said, though she didn’t consider much else in her grand plan of your salvation. Homeless and without a dollar to your name, an alien in New York City, you decided to try and make the best of your situation.

It was funny. On this strange blue dot in a solar system far from everything you have ever known, you discovered there was more to life than chasing after scraps. You could be more than just a specimen for study.

You could be a hero. You could be happy. You could be loved.
