Summary
The sound of rustling ahead yanks Julien from his thoughts. About sixty feet ahead he spots a large hare, foraging through the undergrowth and right out in the open. Its back is to Julien, and he barely dares to take a breath as he creeps closer, Pin stalking forward a few steps behind and shortbow in hand. He is able to advance almost ten feet, slowly notching an arrow. He keeps his eyes on his prey as it continues to forage, unaware of his presence behind it. He is close enough now to feel comfortable landing a clean shot. Julien shifts his weight, and takes one more step, intending to position himself better for the shot.
Julien places his foot down, heel meeting something hard.

Summary
When Thjazi first met Azune at twelve, he saw there was no way to stop the teenage boy from jumping into the first fray that would cross his path. There would be a fray, a big one. The safest place he could keep Azune was under his wing. When the Falconer’s Rebellion ended, Thjazi chose to leave Azune out of the rest of his shady business. He wanted to give the kid a chance. And so it came to be that, on a summer evening in the year 59, Azune’s lingering outside Hal’s doorstep. To start anew.

Summary
Julien frowns. “Occtis. Are you in pain?”
A little breath escapes the wizard. He must have been holding it for a long time. “Uh. A little.”
“Your chest?”
“Yeah.” His eyes flit from the distant treeline to the entrance of the cave and back. His hand comes down from the collar and rubs his midriff. He winces openly. “It doesn’t make sense. Feels like my body’s finally realizing it’s dead, and has an opinion about it. Like, hey, these are no working conditions, too cold and uh- bloodless. I guess.”
Julien very slowly processes these words. He definitely doesn’t process his response before he offers: “I could warm you up, if you like.”
Or, just before heading into the fairy cave, Julien holds Occtis and they sort of talk it out. And I mean in the broadest sense of the phrase. Julien is still Julien.
