Sebastian is just trying to make it to the end of the semester. The end of the month, really. Or, even better, the week. His job at the campus radio station is the only reason he hasn’t gone completely off the deep end. Until Alex Mullner agrees to cover the university sports segment for Dan while he’s on a weeks-long sabbatical.
Alex has it all: a gridball scholarship, tons of friends, and the ability to do a 23-second keg stand. He’s the reigning champion, actually. And he’s only agreed to help Dan out because he knows what it’s like to worry about things back home. That, and he’s currently injured.

Alex blinked, jaw tight, and let out a breathless, humorless laugh.
“You really wanted to get that one off your chest, huh?”
Sebastian said nothing. His expression faltered for the first time—something in it caught between regret and defensiveness, like he hadn’t meant to show his hand quite so much.
Then, quietly, he said, “Maybe if you stopped pretending to be someone you’re not, people would actually stick around.”
The words hit like a punch to the gut. They both knew exactly what he meant. And Alex—no matter how hard he tried, no matter how deep he buried it—couldn’t pretend otherwise.
A shaky breath escaped him. His fists clenched so tightly his knuckles went white.
“Go fuck yourself.”

Ilya wakes up confused. He’s pretty sure he fell asleep at home, in bed, with Shane fast asleep in his arms, but he wakes up on a flat surface with a pinch in his lower back. Had he fallen off the bed in the middle of the night? Neither he nor Shane move much in their sleep, but he supposes it isn’t impossible.
He levers himself up on one hand, stretching out his back slightly as he sits up. He’s definitely not in his bedroom anymore. The room he’s in is large and full of bulky hockey players spread out across the floor. Their soft groans and quiet questions begin to filter in his ears as they wake up as well. He sees some players he knows are on the Voyageurs, some of his own teammates, some coaching staff, and even some WAGs like Jackie Pike and Cassie Boodram. But the most important person in the room is laid out next to him, face slack and peaceful with sleep.
“Shane,” Ilya urges, shaking him. “Shane, wake up.”
