    It turns out that when you grow up in a hive of Scraptools, no one takes it that well when you want to learn how to put things together rather than take them apart, especially when it was for a reason like his. They told him he was overreacting, that he’d learn to enjoy being female if he gave it some time, but he’d been giving it time ever since he hatched and he’d known all along it felt wrong. 

    So he left the hive and struck out on his own, and along the way he’d taught himself to shape and weld some scrap to himself to imitate the contours of a male Scraptool’s body, improving upon each iteration until it was hardly distinguishable from his own frame. The process was second nature to him by now; the thing that ate up most of his time was finding the right piece of scrap for the job, and after a perfect shiny gray panel presented itself to him, he made quick work of fashioning it into the right shape and attaching it to himself. 

    The first trux or tool to appreciate this skill had been D-Structs. He’d been glad to be recognized as male without having to explain anything about his body for once in his life, and he didn’t want that to end now.
