Summary
“Satoru?” The word rings, fuzzy in his ears as it whines like tinnitus, familiar and heart stopping.
‘I’m dead.’ He can’t even hear his own thoughts over the loudness of the world, staggering where he stands, eyes still fixated on the sky, on the sun. ‘I’m dead, I died, I felt my heart stop, this can’t be, it can’t-’
“Hey,” it comes again, a little more urgent than before, a little closer, another hammer to his ears and all the noise shrieking behind his eyes. He recoils hard enough to go stumbling as a hand reaches for him, covered in flesh rather than empty bone, tan and recognizable. Unbelievable.
There’s something wet trickling from his nose. Bile stings on the back of his tongue. The words dissolve into the rest of the white noise as he stares up at the blue of the sky, and tries to remember if he’d ever had a hallucination as bright as this.
‘I have to be dead,’ he thinks. Somehow, he isn’t.
Or: Gojo Satoru goes back in time. He makes a couple of changes for the better.

“...I don’t think you’ll get any nicotine out of it doing that,” Masamichi finally murmurs, and Satoru breathes out a harsh exhale, though it’s nothing close to a laugh. He gives the cigarette another fancy twirl- spinning it between his fingers, over his knuckles, along the back of his thumb.
“I don’t have a lighter,” he says, nothing to it save the simple shrug of his shoulders. He sounds quiet, serious. It’s not like him. “Suguru took it.”

“Soulmates,” Satoru said. “It’s a nice word.”
“...How on earth would you even know? How are you so sure?” Suguru asked, tugging in a nervous gesture at the duvet like he didn’t realize he was, and Satoru only shrugged, chewing on the inside of his cheek.
“I don’t, really,” he mumbled, looking down. “It’s kind of selfish, honestly,” he huffed, the not-quite laugh more melancholic than it wasn't.
(They were soulmates, Satoru had said since forever about a boy he knew more than he didn't, but who didn't know him. Whether it was his own selfishness, or childish fear of abandonment of a person that didn’t really exist, was something he liked to never think about.)

“You bought me milk. Why’d you get me this flavor?” He demanded, only a little below a shout, and with white dripping from his equally colorless hair into his eyes and down his slim nose, Satoru stared at him in shock.
“It...doesn’t bother your acid reflux, much,” Satoru stumbled, eyes wide, brows drawn, and entirely bewildered as the hurt melted away into plain confusion, like Suguru was nuts and not everything else. Suguru felt his heart lurch to a stop. He was going to be so dizzy when he wasn’t currently losing his mind. God, there was already bile inching up his throat. For a second, he wished fervently that he’d drank the damn thing instead of thrown it.
“How the fuck did even you know I have that?” He yelled, entirely at his wits end and not a clue how to find his way back to sanity, because this was nuts, it was beyond fucking nuts- and Satoru blinked, eyes still wide, but like he thought it was obvious.
“You’re you,” he said, entirely disbelievingly, and Suguru was going to have a stroke.

Suguru didn’t remember writing it. ‘This is true for light in a black hole as well. It appears to the outside viewer to grow slower and slower once it crosses the event horizon, until it ‘stops.’ Logarithmic decay- infinitely approaching closer to zero, but never reaching it.’
Satoru has been his undeniable ride or die since their first year of high school. Satoru has also been his self-proclaimed soulmate since their second. Suguru isn't sure how those things exactly fit together, but he knows despite the weird not-memories, the constant forgetful oddities, and the nagging somewhere in his head that he's missing something, always missing something, he wouldn't want be be tied to anyone else.
