“Hey, now, that’s not fair,” Raylan says, feigning offense. “I just thought I oughta do the job right, for an old friend like yourself. You wouldn’t want me to half-ass it and get you stuck in a prison hospital again, would you? There’s only so many times you can find and lose God, Boyd.”

And Boyd might have been inclined to thank Dickie for wrapping Raylan up so nice and tidy for him, had Dickie had the presence of mind to keep his hands off Raylan’s person, but all Boyd can think about is the thud of the bat hitting Raylan's body. It sits badly with him, the idea that Dickie's standing there, thinking he’s got the right to go putting marks on a man he's got no business touching.
