“Is good that you know what you like. And you haven’t done anything wrong,” Ilya continues. “Not really. But I think you like being punished anyway. And that you want me to put you over my knee and make you cry. Am I wrong, or no? You want me to hurt you? Is that what you have been trying to tell me?”
Shane shakes his head, but the motion is weak. He’s abandoned his phone entirely at this point, and his eyes are already glazing over, cloudiness rushing to his head.
“No? Is not good to lie, you should know this by now. I want to hurt you, and I think you want it too, Shane.”
“No,” Shane breathes. “I don’t want that,”
“Oh, but I didn’t ask for your opinion, did I? Like I said, I’m bored. And I want to have fun.”
Ilya’s ideas of fun and remedies for boredom are: joyrides, Shane, parties, Shane, the cottage, and oh, Shane bent over his knee, whimpering and crying as he’s reduced to an absolute mess.

Summary
Shane doesn’t know why he chose to move to Boston to join the Raiders after his hellish stint playing for the Metros. He had a long laundry list of reasons why Boston was the right fit for him: they were a legacy team, it was only a short plane ride away from his parents, it was a good city, a good hockey-loving city, where he could settle down and start to build his life. The list goes on. He thinks his mom even believed some of them.
He couldn’t deny, though, not to himself, at least, that Boston’s star center had a little bit to do with that decision.

Shane transfers to Boston early in his career after he finds himself at the center of a scandal with the Metros. Boston gives him a chance to start over, to build the professional hockey career he always dreamed of, but the transfer doesn’t come without its fair share of problems, especially since Boston is home to his on-ice rival, Ilya Rozanov.
The two become unlikely friends when Shane agrees to help him practice his English, bonding as they start to share bits of their respective cultures.
There are some things about Rozanov, however, that Shane doesn’t quite understand. -

Summary
