Summary
Kalos had seen better days. Rising discontent in the south, a sudden shift in climate, waves of mysterious disappearances, and a sudden epidemic of amnesia had woven a thick and dangerous tension within the public psyche. As it stood, the region needed a strong and competent leader to navigate through such turbulent waters if they wished to retain their membership in the International Pokémon League.
Unfortunately, he had just died.
Thomas was unaware of this, having little interest in the political happenings of a region so far removed from his homeland. This sentiment didn’t last, as a series of unfortunate events left him thoroughly lost in the wrong place at the wrong time. First, he was mistaken for one of the region’s most infamous poachers; then, he was framed for murder of the prestigious Professor Sycamore. This left him caught in the centre of a decades brewing civil war; but lucky for him, he might just have a solution. All he had to do was survive long enough to implement it.

Sparks the Raichu has seen a lot. He's been working for the guild in Radiant City for many, many years, and has seen his share of suffering in the world. He doesn't let that get in the way of his optimistic views on life, though, and even though he's a little older now he still continues to try and make the world a better place.
One day, Sparks comes across a starving, terrified little homeless Buizel who's stealing food to survive and has covered himself in mud. Sparks wants to help this young Buizel, named Ziggy, but the odds are not in his favour...
Ziggy is a shiny Pokémon. Unfortunately, most of the Pokémon world has a different name for Pokémon like him: "Freaks"

Sure, Unova’s in a power struggle, the International Police keeps strong-arming the Ranger Union out of incidents, and Unova’s savior Hilbert disappeared without a trace, but the region’s healing and Lena’s finally starting to move on from her own repressed trauma.
But when Lena gets a Quest to investigate a missing child in Accumula Town, she didn’t think she’d be adding discovering extinct Pokémon, managing international politics, and protecting a child who seems to know too much to her job description.
But duty calls, and Lena is not going to fail again.
