    Summary

Reality is no less apparent than the moment they truly grasp just how gravely they lost in their battle atop the train. The mass of now owner-less belongings scattered throughout the cars being no less than a slap to the face. Without the items, they could've perhaps brushed off the truth. Perhaps there were some empty cars. Their presence though allows for a brutal clarity in reality. Men, women, children. Nobody had been spared in the slaughter. Rumi faltered against the wall of the train, and closed her eyes. She fought against the rising tide of bile in her throat.

Mira and Zoey, two people who previously might've offered her comfort, brushed past her— probably in their own state of shock and horror. There was a deafening silence. Nobody said anything, but the message was loud and clear. It was all her fault.

    Or

A short story reimagining of the Takedown scene if Rumi had confessed after the train.

“I'll give you exactly one second to either show your true form or be sent back to Gwi-ma, Demon.”

Zoey appeared beside her, firm and unyielding, though there was a shadow of doubt clouding her eyes. Still, her voice didn't let it show when she spat, “This is a new low, even for demons.”

The creature just looked closer to tears and even more lost now, scrunching its tiny face in fear and confusion, like the mere threats were harming it.
You aren't fooling anyone Mira thought, but her heart hurt at the sight.

    Rumi still wasn't there.

And Mira's frown deepened, not lessened, as the demon stuttered, then begged, “Wait, wait! I'm not evil, I'm yours!” Its lip wobbled and its voice sounded close to cracking. She turned and looked at Zoey, all wet, big brown eyes and pouty lips. “I'm your kid, I'm from the future! Please believe me, mommy.”

    Summary

Laying there in the dirt, bleeding out, Rumi thought of Mira and Zoey. Not backstage. But before. She thought of all her most cherished memories, all of which included them. Mira’s suffering from their “disguises” utter lack of fashion sense. Zoey rattling off facts about whatever her current hyperfixation was. Late night meals in the studio. Mira’s searching eyes that always saw more than Rumi wanted to show. Zoey’s teasing grin that never failed to make Rumi smile no matter how she felt.

    Her girls.

She had had such a good life with them. She was lucky to have had them. Everything else was worth it, for the time she got with them. She just wished she hadn’t done so much damage to them, but she couldn’t help being selfishly grateful for the peace they gave her.

Rumi choked on a final breath before it all stopped.

She was done. It was done.

    She wasn’t done.

One second she was laying on the ground and the next she was standing, air whipping past her. It was daytime. She was on the train. Mira was talking.

As the cycle repeats over and over, Rumi slowly begins to unravel under the weight of grief, self-hatred, and the terrifying possibility that she is being forced to survive for a reason.

Honmoon? Sealed. Humanity? Saved. Patterns? Still there.

Celine is unhappy that Rumi still has patterns, after sealing the honmoon she was certain they, along with Rumi's demon side would disappear. Determined to cleave her daughter of the darkness, Celine takes drastic measures to ensure the safety of her world and save her daughters soul.
“You three sealed the honmoon, Rumi. But you still have patterns.”

"I don’t understand.” Rumi spoke, her world hazy. She tried to make sense of what was happening. Still dizzy and confused, her head spinning and heavy. Her stomach churned as she felt a wave of nausea hit.

“We have to get rid of that pesky demon side you still have.” Celine smiled.

Rumi’s chest felt tight, her heart best faster. As the sedative began wearing off, she became more aware of her surroundings. Rumi was able to lift her head up, she recognized the room Celine had her in; their medical room. "I don’t understand… what, what are you doing.” Rumi’s voice wavering, shaking with fear. She started crying watching Celine move closer towards her.

As Celine neared her, she gently placed a hand on Rumi's cheek. “It’ll be over soon my love.” She spoke softly. "I promise."
