Hua Cheng, corporeal once again, as he should always be, as he always will be, never again to fade away like he did that fateful day he had died for Xie Lian a third time—his now husband, flickers, as if the flame of a candle briefly lit his skin and was put out in an instant.

“To you,” Xie Lian continues. He tries to keep his breath steady, but it’s hard because this is the first time that he is sharing this with his husband—his first time uttering the very words into existence at all. It is the first time he is admitting not only to his husband, but to the ground, the sky, the ocean—about how much Wuming’s death had haunted him.

He likes looking. There are so many things about Hua Cheng worthy of Xie Lian's admiration, but sometimes–he squeezes the wood plank in his hands hard enough to splinter it–sometimes, he wants to touch.
