Summary
Taše Komai, formerly the Sellsword of Kolmant and presently the sovereign lord of Mardan, had thought that between public performances of cruelty and private attempts on his life, his newly begun reign could have nowhere to go but up. As he wades deeper into the web of alliance and intrigue tying his court together, he quickly realizes he'd vastly underestimated the scale of the work ahead of him — and yet even the sometimes-violent opposition from his nobles is easier to bear than the pain of loving a man who has every reason in the world to hate him.
Ilmekhor Aramar, recently stripped of his rank and handed over to the newly crowned king as a slave, hadn't expected anything better than humiliation and harsh treatment from his new master. Instead, he'd been offered only courtesy and gentleness, and a scandalous degree of freedom to boot. As unconventional as the king might be, though, some things are immutable: the king cannot love a slave, and for Ilmekhor to even imagine such a thing is insult enough to have him flogged. A shame, then, that he's already lost his heart to the man who holds his collar.

OR, Zane's time in the Never-Realm has left him feeling left behind in his new home. He's not used to being equal again, and finds himself having difficulties shedding the mental state of the Ice Emperor. One day, Nya offers to repair him, noticing that something is wrong. Zane can't say no this time, and maybe that's for the best.
