Summary
When Aerion came sidling home with an omega too big, too lowborn to ever be considered remotely respectable, Maekar had been furious. He’d made every attempt to separate them, to chase the omega away, to convince his son of the shame of it all.
They’d married anyways, hand fasted in the ways of men and dragon, bound by something no mortal could undo, no matter how dragon blooded.
So Maekar had put it aside, as he did many a thing he couldn’t control, couldn’t bend into shape. For a moment, he’d even thought to himself, watching as Aerion leaned in to whisper something into his giggling omega’s ear, maybe this is it, maybe this is the peace he needs.
And yet, damnably enough, the Targaryen madness found them anyways.
Maekar raises his grandchild alone and thinks, in the terrible quiet darkness, my last one, my last one, my last one.

Summary
How exactly had it come to this?
It wasn’t that Sirius minded spending his days entertaining children. Even when he wasn’t really in the mood to be fun and energetic, it was good to have a distraction from the constant anxiety and dread that came from knowing it was only a matter of time before they got the news that another one of their friends had been killed.
He tried not to let himself think about how bonding with all these children would make it hurt so much more if anything happened to one of them. Children were almost never the targets in Death Eater attacks. But there had been enough times when entire families had been wiped out…
He wasn’t allowed to think about that. He’d go mad.
They were going to win. They would stop Voldemort. They were closer than ever now, thanks to Regulus showing up with his mad story.
He could certainly think of less pleasant uses of his time than babysitting. It just wasn’t how he’d imagined he’d be spending the war.

Summary
"What, did you think I was out whoring in Lys? Or whoring myself in Lys? Tsk. I brought fire back to the world. I am a legend!"
Dunk was mere feet away now, a monolith blocking out the chaos around them.
The dragon rumbled a warning in its throat, a sound like grinding boulders, but Aerion held up a hand to silence the beast.
"Damn you, Duncan!" Aerion yelled. "Hurt me! Scream at me! Just… say something!"
He braced himself for a strike, but Dunk merely cupped his cheek gently.
"You're as beautiful," Dunk whispered, tears finally spilling over, "as the day I last saw you."
Kingsguard Dunk grieved for years, until one day, the mad prince showed up with an unexpected beast. For #dunkaerionweek2026 Day 1 (“ride the dragon”).

Aerion gifts Duncan a jeweled dagger that, by Valyrian custom, counts as a confession.
Dunk thinks it is only a very fine knife.
