Summary
Death became an old friend. Even when he couldn't reassure himself that he was human in so many ways, at least he knew they'd end the same way—that they'd end up in the same place. Regardless of any other changes, death was always the same, and it had long since become familiar to Clark. He wasn't going to do anything about it, but he can't help but think he wouldn't have to deal with any of this if he were dead, that the cool earth could cover him like a blanket and he could finally rest. He wasn't going to take Ma and Pa's miracle baby from them, he couldn't be responsible for that, but he'd always had a penchant for running, even before super speed. He was always scanning for an exit, always waiting for things to turn towards unpleasant so he could make a preemptive escape.

Bruce looks at Clark for the first time since he began driving, just for a second before looking back to the road. He pulls into the first empty stretch of road that he spots before turning to Clark again, "You thought I offered to bring you to my favorite restaurant in Gotham for an interview?" He tries to suppress the smirk that pulls at the corners of his mouth.
"…yes..?" he says, the bravado of Clark Kent Reporter quickly fading as uncertainty creeps into his voice.
"I was actually hoping this might be a date, Clark."

“Why don’t they just say that, then,” Laios can’t help but mutter sulkily.
Kabru rolls his eyes. “Because that’s not how politics works.”
Laios sighs. “I really hate politics…”
“I know, that’s what you have me for,” Kabru replies, a small smile on his lips.

Matt wishes that the Avenger's assumptions about his seeming inability to read the written word did something as benign as making an ass of him and them. Being called illiterate shouldn't hurt, not when he knows he's not, and it's not like he can tell them the truth.
Not that the truth would make much difference. He's just going to have to grin and bear it.
