Summary
Mitya slowly opens his eyes, mouth dragged open by a large yawn. He blinks and between his eyelids, Valeriy’s stern expression comes into focus.
Eyes narrowed and half-obfuscated by his dark bangs, Valeriy blinks back at him. It’s Valeriy’s only acknowledgement that Mitya is awake.
“Have you been watching me sleep, Sarge?” Mitya smiles through another yawn, raising his hand until he covers his mouth in practiced politeness. His scarf follows suit, mimicking the gesture and covering both his hand and his mouth with large finger-like tassels.
Valeriy doesn’t react to the question or the misapplied title.
“I’ll take that as a ‘yes,’” Mitya says, on the off-chance that it will coax some sort of reaction out from Valeriy’s steely exterior.
It doesn’t.
Halfway through their third show together at the Korolevskiy Theatre, Mitya realizes that these are dates more than anything else.

Summary
“I don’t hate kids,” says Lohen.
Varka trips a little. “What was that?”
Lohen responds by sinking further into Varka’s chest, enveloped by his heartbeat and expanding-retracting lungs. “They’re, just… loud. And needy.”
Varka snorts. “I’d have thought that would give you some common ground with ‘em.”
Lohen wants to pinch him, but his arm won’t move.
“And maybe you’ve got that much in common with Mondstadt, too,” says Varka, “because we need you. So you have to survive this, alright?”
Lohen doesn’t actually want to die, he just really, really, really wants his subordinates to live. Sometimes that means standing between them and a heaving, snarling beast and letting it do its thing.

Summary
Following the events of Lohen's Story Quest, Lohen is left to mourn Adorno in the only way he knows how: by pretending nothing has changed. Confined to Mondstadt and its monotonous routine, he throws himself into the present in hopes of outrunning visions of the past.
It seems doable at first, if he can ignore the guilt, a persistent angel, and the wound in his hand that refuses to heal. But memories have a way of resurfacing, and no amount of denial can keep them buried forever.

“My work is here.”
“Here?” Mitya’s head is pounding, so he’s not sure if he’s actually hearing him right. “You’re not-”
“The first tenet of my assignment,” Valeriy cuts in, “was your safety. We may have forgotten it over the course of these years, but escorting you back to work was always the secondary task.”
Mitya looks away. The snowstorm is still going.
Valeriy sets down the containers on his table, his motions slow and unpracticed. “If it is my role to protect you from your own mind,” he continues, quietly, “then understand that I will be there.”
“You’re taking on an… impossible task, Sarge.” Mitya’s scarf wraps around himself a little more tightly, as if trying to reassure him. He’s not sure that it’s succeeding. “You shouldn’t. I’ve always been crazy. They knew that too. It’s a small price to pay, to see our world freed from these curses.”
Valeriy does not say anything, but Mitya knows he disagrees.
