    He didn’t intend for his tone to hit like it did, but it immediately silenced the room, all eyes on him as he felt the body against him shift.

    “You get used to it after a while. Buck always comes out on top, makes for great conversation-” He cut Eddie off with a frown.

    “No, it doesn’t. It sounds traumatic and I don’t think you should assume that anyone would want to relive even a quarter of what he seems to have been through.” His voice was on the verge of snappish, and he knew he was new to the group and would probably have to apologize later, but he couldn’t stand the idea of listening to any more stories.

    Tommy touched the tattoo gingerly; he felt his breath hitch as Evan shivered at the soft touch. Tommy looked at him, the unasked question obvious between them.

    “It-It was the last thing Thomas said to me before he died.” Evan sniffed again, rubbing his face with his sleeved arm.
