Every day that he’s been out of surgery, that’s about the moment Izuku shows up.
He’s less and less unprepared for the sound of his door being opened at this hour, the mechanical click from the handle and the heavy, low squeak of the panel shifting slowly ajar. It’s been about a week, now. Even the first time, Katsuki had a hard time feeling the shock he tells himself he maybe should have.

But Katsuki’s heart is thudding out against his ribcage from inside with enough force to scare him. “Can I…?” Izuku’s hand slides under Katsuki’s shirt, strokes over the small of his back, and then walks down to the waistband of his sweats.
He’s waiting for Katsuki now. But the longer Katsuki thinks about how he needs to answer, the less he’s able to answer, and he’s—Izuku is so hesitant. He’s so careful when he brushes his fingertips over the front of his pants, and Katsuki tenses up in an instant.
“Izuku—fuck, not—not today, I—” He tries to shuffle Izuku back, further away from his lap to give himself space.
Izuku’s face is transparent. So easy to see the surprise and disappointment flash across it before resignation sets in. “Okay,” he whispers, sitting back. His hands are back on Katsuki’s shoulders, and even that feels like too much right now. “Sorry, Kacchan.”

“You should’ve warned me!” Izuku says indignantly, finally snagging his phone with shaking hands. As he switches it to handsfree, Katsuki’s loud cackling moves out into the room, still tinny and distorted but filling the space with raw, rough warmth. Suddenly, he feels just a little less distant.
“Shut up, I did.” Katsuki sounds distinctly pleased with himself, obviously proud of the reaction he got. “Thought you wanted company?”
Izuku looks at the picture again, more attentively this time. Katsuki is lying back in their bed, creamy skin glowing in the soft lamplight, sparse golden hair just faintly visible on his legs. The tendons in his thighs are standing out and flexing, pointing upwards along the junction of his legs.
“Yeah,” Izuku says, swallowing thickly. His mouth is watering. “You’re really sexy, Kacchan.”
Katsuki’s voice comes through the speaker as a low rumble. “Prove it.”

Katsuki shifted onto his side, grabbing a handful of tissues from the box on the bedside table.
“I hope it was okay…?” Izuku tried again, hurriedly stepping in to help Katsuki with his clean-up. Katsuki allowed it, at least. “Er, sorry that I didn’t, um. I just don’t… it’s too dangerous, Kacchan. I could end up hurting you by mistake, so—”
“Shut it, Deku.” A wad of cum-stained tissues hit him squarely in the face. “Just wipe your dick and let’s go to sleep already.”
By the time they were both clean and settling down to sleep, Katsuki’s feet hooked around Izuku’s calves and his hair tickling Izuku’s nose, he was reassured. Although Katsuki had been disappointed in the moment, it seemed there were no hard feelings: no reason to think this would affect their relationship. Most likely, Katsuki had asked to be choked without thinking and was just annoyed that Izuku hadn’t listened to him.
Yeah, Izuku thought, nuzzling his nose into the nape of Katsuki’s neck and enjoying his sleepy grumble. It was probably a one-off.

Whatever it did, it created enough of a distraction for him to get away — and, supposedly, left every crime scene in need of deep cleaning.
Gross.

The hastily rebuilt dorms welcome him back, this time to the teacher’s floor, and Izuku is too close again, just like when they were kids. He still sucks the air out of a room, is still magnetic even in his grief, even if this Izuku who lives to teach and not to save is someone Katsuki can’t fucking figure out how to talk to anymore.
But Katsuki is a problem solver. He can work on that, and he can find this sick bastard and stop him from killing again—as soon as he figures out why Izuku is disappearing through his goddamn window every night.
