Summary
There is the matter of the true nature of myself and Holmes’ relationship, of which I have taken great pains to disguise in my work. But no more. I have made the decision to recount fully and without censure the truth of our relations, and how they came to be as they are now.

“But the two of you seemed close.”
“We were more than close. We were best friends, bosom buddies, each other’s worst half.” Hawkeye tries to be cheerful. It doesn’t quite work.
“You never met up afterward?”
“I don’t know if I can explain it to you. How Korea, how Korea at war, was a different planet. You might as well ask Neil Armstrong why he never kept in touch with the moonrocks.”
“Wouldn’t it be Buzz Aldrin, instead?”
Hawkeye looks up at her. Behind his bright, friendly eyes, there’s a sheen of vulnerability.
“I guess I had better come up with a better analogy.”

Erin Hunnicutt, sleep-deprived, cold but quietly ecstatic, arrives at Benjamin Franklin Pierce’s driveway at 8:17pm, on September 1st 1972.

“Oh. It’s you”.
-

Summary
Shane sends him a text that says 'thinking about your cock' with a picture of his rippling abs, and even though Ilya really appreciates the abs, all he can think about is the faint bruise blooming on Shane's ribs, and whether it hurts him very badly, and whether there's anything Ilya could do to make it hurt less, if he were there. He wants to be there, he realizes. He wants to be there for the rest of his life.
He has to duck out of the team weight room so he can cough up a fistful of petals.
So.

Sometimes Liliya thinks this is her favourite part: her fingers hovering above the chess piece, the heartbeat of stillness before her move. Pure potential. She could make Jane crawl across the floor, kiss her feet, beg. She could make Jane bark like a dog.

Summary
The Boston Raiders are making decent time heading up into Michigan when one of the horses almost breaks an ankle on what’s left of the road.
A highly lethal—and highly contagious—virus has swept across the planet, taking down the power grid, toppling society, and leaving behind only a tiny fraction of the population. For a while, it seems like everything is over. This is not the case.
Or: The world ends. Shane Hollander starts playing for Boston. Yes, in that order.

Summary
“What are we playing for? Money? Pride?” Hawkeye toyed with a pawn, running his thumb over the smooth marble head. “Pawn to c3.”
“Let's play for a favor.”
That gave him pause, because BJ had a psyche more labyrinthine than the New York City sewer system, and Hawkeye had wound up on the receiving end of it on more than one unfortunate occasion—enough to make him cautious about nebulous wagers.
“What kind of favor?”
“Any kind. One ask, one ‘yes.’”
#
In the months after the end of the war, Hawkeye and BJ begin a game of phone-based correspondence chess. The stakes are simple: whoever wins earns a favor from the other. Hawkeye is willing to take those odds. After all, it's not like BJ would come to Maine to collect, right?
