Summary
Ilya’s voice dimmed, “Shane, what’s going on? Are you okay?” he sounded eager, but also sounded like that he would wait years if Shane even gave him one word in return.
Shane aggressively shook his head, the hum only growing. “I need to-“ No. No, this wasn’t happening. He wouldn’t let this happen. Shane slowly sunk down to the kitchen floor, feeling the nooks in the drawers of the counters scratch against his back while his eyes shut tightly. He wasn’t going to cry. He wasn’t a fucking baby. Shane was strong. And he was strong enough to make this stop.

Summary
After I badgered my brother into reading 'Role Model' (he loved it, naturally), he told me how grateful he was to have a family like Harris. Even though I love 'The Long Game', I often find myself thinking about what could've happened if Shane had been able to ease into his coming out. Which is where I got this idea.
What if Rose convinces Shane to come to out to his team in the days after his confession to her? It probably doesn't go well. At least not at first.
After the horrors of the club in Montreal, before the 2017 All-Star game, Shane and Rose make a plan for Shane to come out to his team and his loved ones. Things do not go to plan. But then Shane's friends and family, and eventually Ilya Rozanov, come together to make sure Shane has full control of how and when he comes out. Some hurt and yearning. Some stupidity. But ultimately a HEA.Note that some AU's of Shane's coming out have graphic homophobic language. This fic does not. It's implied. There's absolutely some homophobia. But I see no need to use hurtful language to communicate an experience too many have had.
Mix of TV and book canon!
Spelling is mix of UK/US, soz. I don't use genAI; em dashes are all MINE!

Summary
Neither of them were themselves. Shane was medicated, but lucid, just enough to take the edge off his perma-anxiety. Ilya was coming down from the most intense burst of adrenaline he'd felt since he was twelve years old. Somehow a barely drugged Shane and a very relieved Ilya made for the most honest conversation they'd ever had.
"I saw the news, Shane. I saw it and I had to come."

Shane gets hit before tuna melt, deep into their hookup season, and Ilya is across the country. Ilya is impulsive: of course he's going to go to ShaneBookmarked by 20Nelli07

Summary
“Make a good first impression.”
He was young when his mom first said it, a parent trying to give her child a leg up in the world.
"You only have one chance to make them remember you, Shane. Show them just how extraordinary you are."
She said it with a smile and a hug before Shane's first day of kindergarten. She would say it from the drivers seat as Shane slipped out the door, youth hockey gear in hand. Before he left the house for prom. Before his first date, teenage annoyance written all over his face. Before every game he ever played, all the way up through high school.
Before each meeting he had with an MLH coach.
"Make a good first impression."
The words ring in his ears, even now, even as he stands at the entrance of a dark alleyway watching the Ilya Rozanov.

.Aka: Shane has some deeply ingrained self imposed rules about meeting new people that he has a bit of a hard time breaking.
