Vex was standing behind him.
Grian stumbled back. He was never face-to-face with an actual villain. He didn’t speak; his face was cold. Grian froze, gripping his desk.
“Good evening, sunshine."------------------------
Grian is normal english proffesor, and Scar is the most wanted villain in the city, except Grian isn't really a normal english proffesor, and Scar finds that really interesting.

"Grian. Grian. Grian. We have to go." Scar demands. How dare Vex be making cookies without him!
"Have to go where, Scar? In case you hadn't noticed, the whole city saw Hotguy get these." Grian flicks Scar's fluffy feline ear. Scar baps Grian right back. Hotguy's tactics may not have been the most orthodox way of stopping Vex's machine, but they had worked! Mostly. Sort of. Enough!
"I can wear a hoodie come on we need to go now!" Springing out of Grian's lap, Scar hops up onto his newly toe-beaned feet, stretching himself out and admiring his brand new hidey-claws.
Bag, bag, bag- Why does all his stuff have his name on it, Scar can't work like this! He ends up with a generic reusable grocery bag, a replacement he hadn't yet remembered to label. Stuffing his rough idea of what he needs in there, pausing on the mask.
"No. Not there." Grian groans, seeing the Vex mask in Scar’s hand.

Summary
Fridays were the worst, and Scar looked forward to them every week.
His shifts at the zoo were often arduous, and his legs always ached violently from the constant bustle, but Quiz Night always made his day better. Especially with all the turmoils of the city making everyone so jumpy, maybe even himself, he needed this time to be with friends, away from work and the rising rates of villains. And all he needed to do to get to that serenity was to grab his bag from the bird sanctuary and return to the safety of street lamps and his friendly security guard.
But that wasn’t what happened. Because Scar wasn’t alone that night.
Or, Scar, a down-on-his-luck bird specialist at a local zoo, found himself absolutely infatuated with the avian vigilante Phantom, for the appeal of crime was far too alluring to be ignored. -

“Citizens of Hermittopia. Last night one of our heroes, Hotguy, encountered a new threat in the Lower Hermittopia City area. A new plant life, which scientists are calling Skulk. It is seemingly hostile and parasitic in nature. The plant is categorized as being dark blue, with lighter blue flecks. Skulk appears to be sound sensitive, lighting up blue when it hears a noise. Be advised that this plant seems to overtake a mob’s body.
So far, all sightings of this plant have been confined to the lower city. Any and all sightings of this threat in any other region of the city should be immediately reported to a Hermit Hero.”
The video feed switched to another news anchor, who was standing with Hotguy in front of the train station to the lower city.
“Hotguy, what do you have to say about this new threat to people?”

Focused as he is on Hotguy, Cub barely notices himself being backed into a corner. Cub’s powers mean that the world holds very few actual corners for him, but- A selfish urge, to have Hotguy’s hands on him, to be slammed against a wall- To make the whole thing real.
A miscalculation. Hotguy does lay hands on him, but not to throw.

Hotguy’s power suppression cuffs. Cub had forgotten them. Hotguy never uses them on Cub.
Hotguy looks almost as startled as Cub does by his own actions. By the cuff on Cub’s wrist, real and solid.
If Cub phases out now, everyone will know. Hotguy will know. For the sake of his powers ruse, Cub has to pretend his powers are properly suppressed by the cuffs.
In a snap decision Cub may never understand about himself, he snatches the other cuff out of Hotguy’s hand, slapping it closed around Hotguy’s wrist with a second decisive click.Or:

“Hotguy.”
“Hi, pretty bird.” He hears Hotguy croon. Grian turned to face his former nemesis, now nuisance.
“Do you want something, or are you just trying to annoy me?” Grian huffed out as he picked up the cop and moved him to the side of the building. Hotguy watched from a distance and didn’t respond until Grian turned around, hands on his hips.
“Just wanted to check on you, it’s been a minute. Wondered if the heroes got you. Was hoping I might have the chance to plan a daring rescue, which might help my chances of winning you over.” Hotguy leaned on the building, shooting Grian a sly glance.
“You make it sound like you’re courting me instead of trying to get me to turn to the dark side.”
Hotguy gasped dramatically and put a hand on his chest. “A Star Wars reference? A man after my own heart.” He then sat up again and walked closer. Too close, and then spoke once again.
“I can multitask birdy.” He said leaning forward until his face was only a couple of inches away from Grians.TLDR: Scar really wants Grian on his side, Grians just trying to live his life, and maybe take down the hero organization while he's at it.

Grian has a lot on their plate. They're working towards an architecture degree during the night, and during the day they have a job, hobbies, and a friend group they try their best to keep up with. And on top of all that, they're also a vigilante in what little time they have in between. They're on the run from law enforcement and a mysterious cult, all while their superhero rival seems obsessed with them.
Scar is trying his best. Being wheelchair-bound isn't the most common experience as a superhero, and he has lofty dreams of reforming the villains the agency is arresting. However, he's seen as young and inexperienced, still in college working towards becoming a veterinarian. He intends on showing everyone his dreams can be real, and he sees the perfect vigilante to reform for the project.
These stories, as well as many others in Hermit City, are intertwined.
