Summary
Ryland “Rye” Grunt is a typical twelve-year-old in the year 2031. In the past five years, schools and communities have tried to find a balance between digital and “analog” reality. Paper and pencils have replaced Chromebooks at Cactus Blossom Junior High and the 2010s “indie sleaze” and “hipster” movements are coming back around in a big way.
But Rye’s life isn’t typical compared to his classmates. His dad, Ripp, is the lead singer and rhythm guitarist for a B-List alternative rock band, Moondust (formerly known as the Moondust Devils). The band's heyday was in the early 2010s and thus are "hip" with the youth again. Emory, Rye’s mom, is a photographer, videographer, and screenwriter for music videos and indie films. So Rye has some street cred. But a new school year is on the horizon and things are changing quicker than he can keep up with.
The question becomes, will Rye survive the seventh grade? Will the seventh grade survive him?
Standalone story. A blend of: Strangeteens in their 40s, my OCs from "Plugged In" and "moondust", and lots of inspiration from stuff like "Diary of a Wimpy Kid" and "Home Movies".
