As both humans and trolls try to improve their respective worlds, the decision is made to save the imperial helmsman and to bring him back to a new and reformed Alternia.
The road to recovery will prove more difficult than the rescue mission itself, as trolls hiding in the shadows struggle to find out how they fit in this new world.

Karkat saw Sollux shaking as he unconsciously gripped the blanket on their communal pad. His eyelids squeezed together so tightly it didn't even look comfortable---like he was having a bad dream or something. Suddenly, he got the bright idea of crawling in bed next to him to try and calm him down. In his defense, he was half asleep when he thought this wouldn't end with him being murdered.
(Chapter 1 and 2 are different stories with a similar plot. Chapter 1 is fluffy hurt/comfort and has Solkat. Chapter 2 is dark all hurt no comfort and has Erisol in a toxic abusive relationship. They're not related.)
