After the war, Khun Aguero Agnes hoped that he would be able to return to helping his husband Bam run their kingdom in peace. However, after a divine storm separates their fleet at sea, he is forced to return home with what remains of his crew and no sign of Bam. After years, the world assumes that Bam is dead, and suitors from all over flock to vie for a chance to gain a foothold in his kingdom by winning Aguero's hand.
But Aguero knows that his husband must be alive, and isn't willing to back down so easily.
Rak was harder to convince. "We should just kill them," he insisted.
"Don't be stupid, gator," Aguero snapped back. "If we kill them, their families will come looking for vengeance."
"Besides, there's practically an occupying army's worth," Hatz muttered. "We could never win in a direct confrontation."
"That's what we keep the sneaky turtle around for," Rak complained.
(this is an AU in which i blend elements of ToG with Homer's Odyssey and put khunbam in the roles of Odysseus and Penelope; background knowledge of the Odyssey shouldn't be necessary to understand)

Summary

After 10 years of war and 9 years stuck under FUG's control, Bam is finally able to return home to his island kingdom and his beloved husband. However, when he arrives, he finds his home overrun by suitors who covet his husband and throne, and finds himself caught up in his husband's scheme to get rid of them.
Hwaryun approached them. "It appears our host is here to greet us personally," she said with an enigmatic smile.
Bam's head whipped around, his gaze falling first on the towering figure of Rak, then the man walking beside him. Even as far away as he was, the distinct light blue of his hair made his identity clear.
Aguero was as beautiful as the day Bam had lost him, carrying himself with all the poise of a ruler. It was strange to see him with long hair, the culmination of years of grief, but at the same time, it lit something like hope in Bam's chest.
(this is a retelling from bam's POV of my khunbam odyssey AU; i suggest you read khun's POV first to better contextualize it but who am i to tell you what to do)

Summary
(this is an alternate timeline of the other fics in the series; i absolutely recommend reading those first)
Khun has been fending off the advances of his suitors for years, waiting patiently for Bam's return. The situation changes when his suitors dare to threaten his son, and Khun is forced to take action.
It was time for all of that to end. Power coursed through his veins as he stalked his next victim, the man's heavy breaths echoing off the walls.
With barely a thought from him, the fire fish heeded his will, swirling through the air and drawing the fire from the torches into itself. It dived back into his chest, but even the sear of its flames couldn't melt away the numbness in his limbs.
The man gasped as the hallway went dark. Aguero didn't need light to finish the job, slamming the base of his spear into the ground. Cold rippled through his body, and a breath later he was met with the wet sound of ice tearing through flesh, an anguished scream ringing through the hall.
He twisted the spear and shinsu flowed through it again. The scream cut off with a gurgling death rattle.

"We can still get out of here, Khun. While everyone's distracted with the celebration, we'll sneak onto a ship out of here. We might not be able to rely on any of the Great Families, but you have a brother in Wolhaiksong, don't you? Maybe they'd give us sanctuary."
It was a sound plan, risky but achievable. Except Aguero had the sense that now that Bellerire had won, he wouldn't be quite so willing to give up the thing that gave him the most claim to the kingdom's throne. There was no guarantee that he wouldn't chase him wherever he went, and if Wolhaiksong wouldn't give them sanctuary, then they would never be safe.
Besides, what would become of Bam's kingdom if Aguero left it under Bellerire's command? When Aguero had married Bam, he promised to take care of Bam's kingdom and people as his own. He'd failed to protect Bam; he couldn't break this promise to him now that it was the last thing he had of his husband.
"No," Aguero said. "I'm not abandoning Bam's kingdom."

Over a month after driving the suitors from his kingdom, an unexpected visitor comes with a message Khun can't ignore.
"Are you just going to follow me around all night, or are you going to tell me what you're here for?" Aguero called out, tucking a hand in his sleeve.
Silence. He grasped at the hilt of his hidden dagger, keeping his breathing steady.
The scrape of movement against cobblestone rang out, and Aguero pivoted out of the way as a flash of silver flew toward him. Pain seared across his cheek in its wake, the blade clattering against the wall behind him.
"You've gotten slow," a familiar voice followed the blade. "Unless you mean to tell me that you let me hit you on purpose."
