He said something stupid and Pete laughed out loud, it was infectious and Jake put his head in the crook of his neck, just relishing in the sound.
Calloused fingers caressed his cheek and Pete pulled back to look at him. "Marry me?" There was not a trace of humor on his face, he was serious.
The first thing that went through his mind was this guy is fucking insane. They have known each other for a few months, this could be disastrous.
"Yes,” was the word that came out of his mouth.
Turns out Jake was just as insane.

These days, Maverick considered himself a solitary man, even though he had friends, the ones who stuck around, he tended to be by himself a lot, especially after his fallout with Bradley. That changed when he met Jake.
Jake enjoys solitude, but sometimes he finds himself feeling lonely. Until Pete.
Bradley walked away from Maverick and everyone else. He feels utterly alone. It will take a while for him to even consider reconciliation, let alone, having a family again.

Mav chuckled, waved it off as he always did. He changed the subject, promised to make it right and pay for the damages he caused on his car.
"I didn't see any. But that doesn't really concern me. The damage to your pretty face? Now that would have been a tragedy."
Pete never liked being called 'pretty', especially when he was younger and tiny, it felt derogatory. But the way Jake said it, his tone honest, like he meant it. What actually happens is, he does shots with Phoenix, drunkenly confesses his feelings to Mav, wakes up the next morning with one hell of a hungover and married.
"Oh shit, oh shit." Rooster exclaimed, bringing a piece of paper within an inch of his face as if to read better. "This is a marriage certificate?!"
"Uh, whose?"
"Ours."
Jake sprinted to get a hold of the thing, he rubbed his eyes to be sure but it was there, a fucking marriage certificate with both of their names. His name, Jake's, and Rooster's, freaking Bradley Bradshaw. "Oh, fuck me."
Natasha finds the whole situation hilarious.
