Chapter Text

Will woke up to the smoke alarm having been activated. The stench of something burning hit his nostrils and set his stomach on fire. His ears were ringing at the constant fire alarm blaring, groaning as he rolled out of bed, carefully avoiding stubbing his toe against the wall.

He opened the door to his room and walked out into the kitchen. “Jane! How many times has mom told you to STAY AWAY from the stove?!” He was then met with two heads peering out of the pantry entrance. It’s always those two getting into some kind of trouble, even if it’s at the crack of fucking dawn.

“Max, Jane, could you both at least open the doors and windows to let the smell out!” Will yelled again, walking over to the door at the corner of the kitchen that led to the backyard and opening it, then walking over to the two windows and sliding them open as well.

“It’s nine in the morning, and you two have already started pure chaos? When is the day that I’ll get some rest without having to wake up to something as dumb as this?” Will looked over at the stove, only to see a piece of bread burning in the pan. And the other three pieces of burnt bread were lying on the countertop.

“Sorry, Max wanted to ea-”

“I’m sorry, but I AM NOT HUNGRY, so quit using my name to get out of stuff, Jane.”

And there goes the small piece of stability left. A small argument broke out between the two girls, their scents getting everywhere, causing Will a huge migraine (his tolerance with people’s scents got worse after the first two months of his pregnancy).

He gives up and sits down on one of the chairs in the dining room, his eyes drooping with the stench that lingered. The girls’ voices drown out as he falls asleep, getting into a comfortable sitting posture so his back wouldn’t hurt later.

“Will, honey, wake up. It’s almost noon,” his mother whispered, her hand gently patting his back. His eyes fluttered open at the soft voice of his mother, who was smiling so warmly at him. “Wait, noon? What time is it?” He anxiously looked around for his phone, only to remember he wasn’t in his room, but in the dining room.

“It’s two-thirty, why?” She asks, slight concern lacing her tone. Will stands up and scurries to his room, telling his mom it was nothing and that he was supposed to meet a friend. “Shit, shit, shit! Just my luck,” his eyes landed on the buzzing phone that lay on the ground.

“Byers! Where are you? Do you realize what time it is? Steve and I have been waiting outside for you. Dustin included!” God forbid a man has to work two jobs and gets home late, only to get paid less than expected. “Sorry, Robin! I-I overslept again, but don’t worry, I’m almost done changing—just gotta find my pants, and a shirt.”

Robin sighs and tells him to hurry up, or they’ll leave without him. A week ago, they had planned to go out and spend some quality time together since their jobs had kept them busy, and it was the weekend before Christmas, so they were all off (some of them, the others had to ask for a day off).

Will looks around and finds some sweatpants lying on the floor and grabs a sweatshirt. Putting them on quickly, and grabbing his phone, putting some shoes on when he reached the front door. “Bye, Mom! I’m heading out now. I should be back around nine? Maybe eight!” The door slammed shut, and he winced.

He needs to work on shutting the door properly, but that’s a thing for another day. The car horn made him shudder, and flipped them off, walking over to the car, he snarled at Robin.

“Well, hello there, Princess, ready for a delicate trip to the movies? Would you like a cushion to make your seat feel less uncomfortable, or–”

“How about you begin driving, or I won’t hesitate to ruin your face and leave a beautiful black eye on you.” Will smiled cruelly at the black eye part. This has been happening a lot lately, where he will get aggressive with anyone who starts poking at the wrong spots. “Calm down, I was just teasing,” Robin shouts back while starting the car. Dustin and Steve laugh at the interaction.

The car started, and they were off to the movies. Will had his hand on his swelling belly while he stared out the window, watching cars pass, and the new or old run-down houses in the neighborhood. He could already feel his eyes drooping the more he gazed out the window, but it’s not like he could do anything about it. The pregnancy was already taking a full swing on him with its symptoms, or how he likes to call it, its unnecessary jack shit.

They arrived at the movies around five, and they got out around six-forty. The funny thing was that only Will seemed to have enjoyed the movie. And the others… Well, not so much, as they couldn’t stand watching Will so neutral and slightly excited after that movie.

“I told y’all not to listen to whatever Will suggests to watch!” Dustin shouts, still hunched over the trash can, puking all of the food out. Sometimes they leave Will thinking of how dramatic they are.

“Well, it looked like we were gonna watch something good, Henderson!” Steve was beside him, patting his back with a look of disgust at the retching sounds coming from the boy.

“I mean, I think I would’ve rather watched that than watch what you wanted, Dustin,” Robin says, flashing a smile at Will then laughing, and pulling her phone out to take a video. “I hope you guys know that y’all are so dramatic.” The looks he received from that single sentence were like a death sentence or a wish. “It was that bad?”

“YES!”

“Not really.”

“It was okay.”

The different responses left Will baffled, and he couldn’t help but chuckle at them, feeling a small but sharp flutter against his side. Sometimes he couldn’t believe this baby could already move a little, despite it being only four and a half months old. “Are you done with your dramatics, Henderson?” They all ask in unison.

“Yea, I’m done, but next time. We’re NOT letting Will pick the movie,” he glared at Robin and Steve. “Even if it looks good, we will resist the temptation to watch it!” Sometimes Dustin can be overly dramatic about things like these.

After that, they decided it was best to walk around a little, going from store to store until they all found one interesting enough for them to stay hours there. Will liked the things they were selling, Robin was enamored with the lady working on the counter, and Steve was hitting on the omega at the other side of the counter.

And Dustin, well, he’s at the coffee shop across the street, getting them all some coffees to warm up their systems, and getting a little cake-pop that Will asked for. Walking around, he came across a little stuffed animal that reminded him of one of his students.

He stopped at the stuffed bunny and took a look at it. It was cute, and he had a feeling his baby would like to play with something like this when they're born.

“Here, honey, you should wear something warmer when we’re out shopping,” a couple had walked into the shop earlier, carrying their newborn baby with them. Will felt like he was invading their privacy by staring at them a little too long before he forced himself to look away. There was a pit in his stomach, and it was all due to wanting someone to love him.

Yes, even if he refuses to mate with anyone because of his fears that developed in his teenage years. He also doesn’t want to be with anyone who isn’t the father of his child. He doesn’t know why, but he just chooses to not mate with anyone that isn’t the person who left them.

“Will?” Dustin called out, having been tapping on Will’s shoulder for the past three minutes holding what he asked for. “Here’s the stuff you asked for,” handing him the cake pop and coffee with a smile before adding: “also we’ll be leaving soon, don’t know why, but Robin says so,” he points at Robin who is standing embarrassingly beside Steve.

Who was still flirting with the decent Omega behind the counter. Will let out a laugh at them. It was funny when Steve put them in these types of situations, or more funny when Robin had to swallow her embarrassment and pretend like she wasn’t bothered by the Alpha’s behavior.

His laughter soon died down when his phone began to vibrate in his pocket. For some reason, he thought it was his sister and Max trying to bother him while being out of the house as per usual, and it was.

“What do y’all want?” He asks, stepping out of the store with a calming smile. “Geez, couldn’t you be a little kinder to us?” Max always pulls that line when he uses that annoyed tone on them, but what could he do? Act like he’s so happy to hear their ridiculous voices? He’s had to deal with Max’s and Jane’s shenanigans ever since she moved in with them two months ago.

“Max, just tell me what you guys need!” Pissing him off isn’t really a great idea with his current condition. “Uh- you okay? You sound a little- Max! I said tell me, or else there’ll be no more trips to the mall.” You could hear someone gulp on the other side of the phone, then a small, unserious giggle breaking through the small tension.

“I-Ice cream, I was wondering if you would wanna come with Jane and me on an ice cream date.” Shit! Will sighs, a small shudder making way through this body. How could he get pissy over a small thing. God, he needs to control his emotions because clearly he feels like he can’t be blaming his baby for it all.

“Sorry, Max, I didn’t mean to react that way! How about I bring you all some Starbucks and a small bucket of ice cream, and maybe we could do movie night?” Silence yet again, but this time another giggle came through (probably Jane), and then they all laughed.

Proposing something with sweets, movies, and ice cream always works a charm on these two girls. They talked a little longer and then hung up. Another small smile appeared on his lips, but he really should get back before his friends start questioning him about his leave.

“Oof.”

Seems like bumping into people is his new specialty. “I’m sorry, I wasn’t looking,” he glanced up at the person, and this was an even more reason to feel embarrassed.

“Oh! Shit- I mean, Mike, what are you doing here? Cheese-itz that came out wrong, of course, you’re allowed to walk anywhere because-” he could feel his cheeks were flushed. And if that weren’t enough, then spilling his coffee on the Alpha was slightly worse.

“Will? It’s fine, really, please just take a deep breath and calm down for me.” Mike murmurs, his hands on each of the omega’s shoulders. Will was still spiraling, but Mike’s reassuring words did something, probably because he was an Alpha or whatever.

“I apologize again! I’ve been everywhere lately,” he pauses for a little, his face probably looked like a red tomato. Why is he spilling his latest matters to another? Gosh, he really is everywhere these days. “That… I simply can’t seem to focus!”

“Oh, I-I… I umm,” none of them really had words to speak out. It seems like Will could no longer bear the embarrassment and apologized again, excusing himself inside. Leaving the other standing in the cold, the earlier coffee that had been accidentally spilt on him made his body shudder.

Well that could’ve gone better.
