They stand on the stage underneath Mark Immortell’s watchful eye. The director ruffles through the numerous pages of the script and sighs.
“We need a change. A new idea for the next performance.”
“Haven’t we done enough?” Daniil retorts venomously. His entire body is buzzing with anxious energy, and Artemy notices. He places a hand on the shorter man’s shoulder, hoping that the touch would relieve at least some of the copious stress. Daniil leans into the touch and visibly relaxes.
Mark Immortell smirks at the scene and notes something down.
“I have just the idea. Lights! We are going back to the beginning…”They both wake up on the train. Artemy finds no resistance from the town. Daniil almost dies at the hands of three men. A new rendition of the play has begun.
