Chapter Text
It wasn't often that L could honestly admit he had miscalculated, he was L afterall, but as he lay awake staring at the ceiling handcuffed together with his chief Kira suspect, he had to admit he had royally fucked up.
Just a bit, anyway.
Yes, being cuffed together with Light meant he could monitor him closely but what it also meant was he couldn't feed.
And no, he didn't mean the candy and fruits he always had on hand during the day, he meant his actual food: sexual energy.
Being an incubus, L needed to feed off the sexual energy from humans and, up until this point, that had never been an issue for him. But now, he'd scored a massive own goal and prevented himself from getting to his latest food source.
I could just make him have a wet dream but that's so unfulfilling. It just isn't enough and i'm using so much energy at the moment, L thought, brows furrowing in irritation at himself, What was I thinking? How long am I going to have to starve with him chained to me? I can't exactly have Light wait outside while Matsuda of all people fucks me now can I?
L could honestly say he wasn't too picky when it came to food (the demonic kind, that is) and on paper Matsuda was actually an ideal target: soft, easily manipulated and young enough to be pretty horny a lot of the time. The man wasn't unpleasant looking either and, in all fairness to him, knew how to use his cock.
L's problem was that Matsuda was unfortunately rather stupid and he did not like stupid humans. It was a personal preference but ideally he preferred to feed from humans who were at least above average in intelligence.
No, L's real problem was lying right next to him. L wanted Light Yagami with an intensity that burned through him and left him in a constant state of hunger since he'd first laid eyes on him. He knew he had the power to bend Light's will to his own and use his allure on him, seduce him and have his wicked way, but L refused to entertain such a thing. He had never slept with an unwilling mortal and he never would. Apart from the fact the energy given off wouldn't be nearly as satisfying from a manipulated union he held a strong moral standpoint that such things shouldn't be forced either. He admired and respected humans too much for that, even if he did spend a fair bit of his time looking down at them too.
Matsuda was an easy conquest and convenient and that was what had attracted L to him. Convenience was what was needed during a complex case like the Kira case. Matsuda was also bisexual and more than willing to lay with him, so, L felt no concern over using his allure on him or feeding from him since the man wanted him anyway. Hell, the puppy-like man had been smitten with him from the start even without his powers. Light Yagami, on the other hand, was so deeply in the closet L suspected his mailing address was in Narnia.
L huffed quietly, eyes narrowing at the ceiling.
He never could fathom why humans considered homosexuality such a taboo. Didn't they realise it was completely natural? Without it the world would be overrun with unwanted offspring and populations would boom and collapse! Indeed, his entire race prided themselves in their sexualities. That was only natural since they were sex demons, L supposed, but still. If only humans could be as confident and self accepting they'd really have an easier time living their short, little lives.
But no, some bright spark just had to harp on about it being a sin until such lies took root in conflicted (and repressed) human minds.
Such a shame Light refuses to admit who he truly is. If he could he would have been my first choice to feed from, L thought longingly.
Light was beautiful, talented, charismatic and, most importantly to him, devastatingly intelligent. Yes, he had been Kira but L was certain for the time being he didn't retain his memories and ideally L wanted it to stay that way. In fact, chaining Light to him was supposed to protect the young man from regaining his memories and keep him close. That had been L's intention- not starving himself.
If he could find out the source of Kira's power and prevent Light from succumbing to it again he would let the whole ‘once being Kira’ thing slide if it meant being able to feed from Light exclusively and have him work with him…
“Ryuzaki, get some sleep” came a sleep-roughened voice in the dark, “I can practically hear you thinking”
L's gaze narrowed further as he felt Light shift next to him. How did Light always know when he was awake?
“Oh yes? What am I thinking about?” L asked, tugging at their cuffs slightly just to be a dick.
“Cake, probably” Light replied snidely, “And my Kira percentage”
L smiled, unable to help himself. It truly was such a shame that the first interesting human he'd met in 40 years was so unavailable to him despite their proximity.
“Am I right? You're thinking about food, aren't you?” Light said, a smug tinge to his voice.
L closed his eyes, a deep pang of hunger rippling through him as he thought about inhaling that delicious golden vapour that exuded from human skin after they situated their lust.
“Mmhmm, you're right” he said dryly, entering Matsuda's mind to find the man already thinking of him and finding himself irritated and disappointed at the same time.
Too easy. Where's the challenge? L thought in annoyance as he flipped onto his side to put a bit of distance between him and the tasty snack right next to him. He'd need to think about this current arrangement more thoroughly in the morning…
********
The next morning, Light found himself in a very unexpected predicament: he had woken up before L.
He waited patiently for 10 minutes, figuring L really needed a lay in considering he never slept enough anyway. But by the 30 minute mark his patience was beginning to fray and his full bladder was beginning to ache.
“Ryuzaki” Light reached with his free hand to shake his bed mate, “I really need the bathroom”
L made a small moan and curled up further into himself. He didn't want to wake up. He had no energy and he was cold.
“What's wrong with you? Are you sick?”
L let out an irritated growl at the voice and tugged the duvet around himself further. Yes, he wanted to know why Light had forgotten he was Kira and investigate Yotsuba with Light chained to him but he couldn't do all that when he was literally starving. He could already feel himself beginning to fade!
“Not well” L forced out, “Watari” he mumbled into his watch.
Within 2 minutes Watari was in the room removing the cuffs.
“Yagami-kun, please go to your room and get ready for the day” Watari instructed.
“What? But I thought-”
“Ryuzaki is currently unwell, I believe it would be for the best if we remove the handcuffs for now” Watari said in a patient tone, “We will revisit the situation once Ryuzaki is better”
Light glanced at L, eyes widening at how pale and shaky he was.
“Are you alright?” Light found himself asking before he could stop himself. He really shouldn't give a damn, he knew that. Ryuzaki had chained them together and taken away his freedom so why should he care in the first place?
“Just a bug” L mumbled, refusing to meet Light's eyes, “After some rest I will be fine. Say, send Matsuda up here, will you?”
Light frowned, “Matsuda? Why him?”
“Because I need to get some more sleep and listening to him exhausts me” L said acidly.
Watari hid his smile as he sent a message to Matsuda.
Having an incubus as a son could be challenging at times, but he wouldn't change it for the world. L wasn't like the demons in folklore that was for certain. He did not go out of his way to terrorise or harm anyone and he actually had an endearing fondness for humanity. Not to mention an unrivaled talent for solving cases…
Light found the situation bizarre but decided it could wait. He really needed the bathroom. Time to puzzle over Ryuzaki's latest oddity later.
Once they were alone, Watari gave L an expectant look.
“I know” L moaned, shivers intensifying, “I thought a couple of weeks wouldn't hurt-”
“A couple of weeks? You need to feed every 2 days, L, a couple of weeks you'd be a lifeless husk!” Watari tutted, “Honestly, for such an intelligent boy you can be an idiot sometimes”
L narrowed his eyes into slits, his charcoal irises turning into a beautiful but unnatural silver hue, “Watch it” he hissed, demon traits beginning to show in his irritation. He did not like being reminded of his inexperience. Yes, he hadn't been an incubus long but he knew enough to get by thank you very much! He was born a human, hadn't even been made an Incubus until he turned 21 and Watari knew that, the bastard.
Watari simply smiled, completely at ease and unafraid of the boy he'd raised since he was 6, “You cant deny there is an attachment between you and the Yagami boy” he councilled, “I know you want to protect him but I will not stand back and watch you do that as you damage yourself in the process. I will increase surveillance on Yagami-kun and the chains can go back on once you have fed”
L sighed and nodded, too weary to argue. He supposed as far as Incubus went, he was really only a novice since he was less than 100 years old, and Watari (having hailed from a long line of exercists) did, unfortunately, know better than he did.
A gentle tap at the door and Watari gave L a smile, “Ah, your breakfast is here. Do come downstairs when you're feeling more yourself”
L watched Watari leave and then, almost immediately, a predatory gleam came over his eyes as poor, lovesick Matsuda rushed in.
“Ryuzaki! Are you sick?” Matsuda, sweet, kind, Matsuda gasped, looking stricken.
L gave him a sly smile, “I am, Matsuda…but I think I'll feel better if you come here…”

A few hours later, L strolled back into HQ as if he hadnt been curled up in a ball shivering and Light looked up from his paperwork in surprise.
“You're better already?” Light asked, incredulous. He'd never heard of someone recovering from a bug that quickly.
L gave Light a bland smile, “I tend to fall sick very quickly but also recover fast too” he shrugged, “I'm much better now, thank you for your concern, Light-kun”
“I… alright” Light conceded, “I guess we are being handcuffed again?”
“Yes, but I will be taking them off periodically as well to give you privacy and a chance to meet up with your girlfriend” L said, climbing into his chair and smirking at the disbelieving look Light gave him. Without his memories Light was just so much more expressive, L thought.
“Since when have you cared about my privacy or me spending time with Misa?” Light had to ask. Had Ryuzaki had a head transplant or something?
L ignored that entirely in favour of giving Matsuda a subtle once over. He'd fed well and taken a little more energy than usual but other than the occasional yawn and tired slump to his shoulders Matsuda seemed no worse for wear. He'd keep an eye on him through the day but he was confident he'd taken enough energy to keep him going the next two, perhaps three days.
Matsuda met L's eyes and L, from years of practice, kept his face a serene mask as if he hadn't just been fucked into the mattress by Matsuda not 30 minutes prior.
Light sighed as he shook his head. Of course Ryuzaki wouldn't answer him. It just further raised his suspicions that something was up with the Detective and he was determined to find out what it was.
“So I could go on a date with Misa tonight?”
L turned to Light and, through sheer will alone, kept up his blank expression, “If you want to” he said neutrally, even while the demon inside him was seething in anger and jealousy.
Light raised his eyebrows, “You don't want to tag along?”
L tilted his head and gave Light a knowing smirk, “Not particularly. Sorry, Light-kun, you'll have to tolerate her by yourself”
Light huffed and took a sip of coffee, “I don't tolerate her, Ryuzaki”
Light… liked Misa. Very much, in fact.
“Of course. Pardon me, you're deeply in love with Miss Amane” L replied sarcastically, gaze fixed on his computer screen. Interestingly, Youtsuba's quarterly profits had skyrocketed…
“That's…” Light leaned forward and L had to take a second to close his eyes and savour the warmth of Light's proximity, “That's an unprecedented growth in such a short time”
“It is,” L agreed thoughtfully, a plan already formulating in his tireless brain on how to get people into Yotsuba HQ to bug it. Obviously he knew who he wanted to place the bugs but he needed a diversion too and his options were limited- even though with his acting skills and intellect he was the most suitable he couldn't risk Light, and while the rest of the Task Force had enough experience they were also well known. Which left him with…Matsuda.
“What are you thinking?” Light asked, recognising that determined gleam in L's eyes.
“I'm thinking you may need to postpone that longed for date with Misa this evening, Light. While you're at it, call her to HQ. I have a task I want her and Matsuda to complete”
Light's eyebrows rose, “Misa and Matsuda?” He repeated, wondering if he'd heard that right.
“Indeed. I need them to provide cover” L replied, fingers flying over his keys as he emailed Aiber and Wedy and requested their assistance immediately.
“Cover for what?” Light persisted, irritated Ryuzaki was making plans that involved his girlfriend without even consulting him.
L sensed Matsuda approaching and gave him an appraising look. He knew Matsuda would agree to do whatever he wanted anyway but for appearances sake, he asked Matsuda to sit down so he could discuss a proposition with him.
Matsuda listened intently, looked concerned but, by the end of what L had to say, he was nodding.
“I can do it, Ryuzaki” he promised, his eagerness to impress and his determination actually rather sweet.
L gifted Matsuda a small, rare smile, “Thank you, Matsuda-San, I appreciate it”
Light, of course, had noted that smile and it felt like another piece had fallen into place as he considered L's bizarre request for Matsuda to go to his room that morning.
Was there… something going on between them?
