“You mustn’t think of it as being visually impaired,” Damian scoffed, turning to Duke with the stubbornness and sassiness that only a thirteen year old could manage. “That implies weakness. You are not weak, Thomas.”
“How do you know that!” Duke snapped, defensiveness rising in his tone. “I’m blind! Blind as a — “
“Bat?” The younger boy deadpanned. Duke fixed him with the best glare he could, trying his best to counter the expression Damian probably was wearing.
This was stupid. Damian’s only trying to help but shit! Why could no one else understand how fucking useless he felt!?
“Damian,” Duke took a breath. “How am I supposed to help? I’m not strong anymore, I can’t even aim! I am weak!”
“Tt, nonsense.”
A beat.
“You’re one of the strongest people I know, Thomas.”

Following a tragic event when Duke lost complete control over his powers and permanently rendered him blind, Duke is forced to navigate the world with a different lens through photokinesis and manipulations of the photons in the air.
Duke learns to experiment with his abilities, fight in a way unique to his person but also how to see the world in a completely new light.
