Vash isn't well-versed in asking for what he wants. He's much better at theatrics, and half-truths, and longing glances over a fire.
Wolfwood is just doing his job.
At the end of it, they're both just making excuses.

“You’re freezin’, huh?”
The question feels loaded. It feels purposeful and damning and dangerous.
Vash leans back into the embrace against his better judgment and closes his eyes.
“Kinda,” he finally relents—voice pathetic and reedy, even to his own ears. Acquiescing to a flimsy, unbelievable out because he’s too weak to keep himself in check.
“Can’t have you dyin’ on me in the middle of the night,” Wolfwood murmurs.
Heart in his throat, Vash decides to play along. “The desert gets pretty cold at night.”
