Chapter Text
This is the worst. Satoru drums his fingers on the table, glaring daggers at his mother. Or at least, he hopes he's glaring at her. He doesn't exactly have anything to go off of except the direction her voice has been coming from. "Don't you think I should at least get a say in who you're deciding to hire as my babysitter?"
"They're not babysitters, Satoru, they're caregivers." His mom sounds exhausted. "Your dad and I think he's a good fit."
Satoru rolls his eyes. Kind of funny actually, how that's still something he does even though he can't see shit. Call it habit.
Doctors say he got the worst possible outcome. Corneal perforation and optic nerve damage that caused dimmed, blurred, and greyed vision. In layman's terms that means 'I can't see shit'. And turns out not seeing shit really fucking sucks. He can barely tell if it's night or day most of the time. Real fucking embarrassing, having his phone read out the time to him just to know how long he's been asleep every time he wakes up. Only good thing is he's lived in this apartment ever since he got his PhD, so he knows his way around, more or less.
"Look, Satoru. He's gonna be here in a minute, wether you like it or not." His mother says, and Satoru huffs, crossing his arms petulantly.
"He has great qualifications—"
"So did the other three."
There's a weighted pause. He can hear her rub at her face, skin on skin, can hear the clock on the windowsill ticking.
Finally, she sighs, and Satoru hears her get up. He's not proud of the way he startles when she squeezes his shoulders from behind him.
"Just give him a chance."
She makes tea while they wait. Satoru can hear the clinking of cups, hears her drop sugar cubes into his cup. Two, four, seven. It's funny how she never cared about the number until the accident.
Satoru sighs, throws his head back where he's sat at the dining nook of his kitchen. Blinks once, twice. His eyes feel dry. They do that a lot nowadays.
Should probably just keep them closed. But habits die hard.
The doorbell rings, and he can hear his mom's footsteps, can practically see her in his mind's eye as she steps down the hallway of his apartment. The walls, he knows, are lined with pictures of him, Shoko and Suguru, on all the different vacations he's taken them on since he met them. Bali, Seoul, Busan, Hawaii.
Satoru sighs, slides his fingers across the table until they bump into his rectangular sunglasses and puts them on as he prepares for the usual myriad of questions.
When the door opens, Sukuna sees a relatively tall woman with silver hair and tired eyes. She greets him formally and bows deeply. Like she thinks he's doing some great service. "Ryoumen-san, welcome, I'm Gojo Himiko, you'll be working with my son."
Sukuna grunts in greeting and steps in when she moves aside. "I read the forms," he says plainly as he puts on the house slippers provided. He has a bag of things he might need to monitor the man, but he puts it down just inside the room. "Where is he?" The woman isn't his client, so he doesn't particularly care to speak with her.
She blinks and smiles politely, a bit taken back. "This way, follow me." She brings him down the hall to the kitchen. Her voice has the familiar twinge of impatience she usually gets when Satoru's being rude.
Satoru wonders, briefly, what he looks like today. Black slacks and a dark hoodie, maroon mom had said. His hair's still shorter than it used to be thanks to the incident with the scissors, but he finds he doesn't mind too much. Easier to take care of. Plus, if he can believe Shoko, Suguru did a good job with the cut (with fixing Satoru's mess).
He can hear them coming, the new guy's footsteps heavy on Satoru's laminated floors.
Sukuna walks in and sees Satoru finally. "You can call me Sukuna."
What Satoru doesn't expect is the man's voice. Deep baritone, a sound that makes the hairs at the back of his neck stand up. It has him straightening his back. Blind, milky eyes widen behind the shades he's wearing. He's a lot more interested now than he was a minute ago. Sukuna, huh?
Still, nice voice or not, Satoru doesn't grace the guy with an answer.
Sukuna stares for a few moments, then when he gets nothing, he looks back at Satoru's mother. "Can you show me around so I know where everything is?"
She gives Satoru a pleading look, even if it's useless, and starts showing the new care worker the ropes of the apartment.
"I'll be here five days a week, eight hours a day, I'll discuss with you what schedule works best, then we can get on with it." Sukuna says, bored and clearly like it's a rehearsed speech.
Satoru's mother shows him around, starting small talk that Sukuna dismisses with grunts or one word answers. He doesn't care to be friendly.
Satoru, instead of acknowledging Sukuna in any way, pulls out his phone. It's a pain to use now, really, but he swipes his fingers across the display until it tells him he's on the messaging app (that part's easy enough, he remembers where it is, sort of) and opens it. He's got the group chat with Shoko and Suguru pinned, so it's at the top. The hard part is the typing. It's annoying, how much the phone talks to him when he doesn't need it to, and how little it helps with actually typing. He keeps it short and to the point.
😎: : new guy hot voice
🦊: i said be nice to him
🚬: technically he is being nice lol
Satoru snorts as the voice reads the incoming texts to him. Doesn't grace either of them with an answer. Nowadays, the chat is mostly filled with voice messages. More often than not, he just calls. Doesn't matter what time.
By the time Sukuna and Himiko return to the kitchen, she sits down and taps Satoru's foot with hers under the table. Like a prompt to try to get him to introduce himself, or speak at least one word to the new guy.
Sukuna notices but doesn't comment on it. He sits at the spot he's invited to and he looks at his phone. "What is your typical schedule, what days do you want me here, and at what hours?" His tone is detached, like he's staring into the middle distance.
Satoru hears them approach, and at least has the common courtesy to tuck his phone away under his hand.
He knows the schedule off the top of his head. "Tsukiya's here Wednesdays and Sundays."
The guy is the only one who's stayed for more than a week. In fact, he made it to the two week mark recently, but Satoru's pretty sure the guy's just about had it with him. "I got check ups every Monday at eleven that you gotta take me to." Which is unnecessary in his opinion. Once a month would be more than fine. I'm already blind, what's the point? he'd said, but his mother had insisted. He doesn't say anything about when he gets up or goes to bed.
"Do you need help with peak hours of the day? Waking, eating, getting ready to sleep?" Sukuna asks like he's reading from a checklist.
Satoru rolls his eyes, and doesn't care if it's visible over the top of his shades. "I can wake up by myself just fine, thanks."
"Satoru..." His mother sounds exhausted already. The corner of his mouth twitches upwards.
"He needs help getting dressed—"
"I so do not."
"—in a timely manner ."
Satoru can almost feel the look she shoots at him. So what if he takes an hour? It's not like he has places to be or work to attend anymore.
"I'm not here to argue with you. Am I getting paid for you to be dressed more quickly, or not? Do you need help with hygiene routines, when do you shower, and do you want to increase my hours so we can achieve all of those things? I can work up to twelve a day contractually." Sukuna flicks through his phone and looks between the Gojos. He's used to the type of situation, most late case vision loss clients have some reluctance and such. He just doesn't want to be a part of it.
Sukuna was sent for his special skills, not his bedside manner.
Satoru huffs quietly. It's frustrating, he doesn't like how bored the guy sounds.
"Satoru." Himiko says again, and she's nudging his leg under the table. He sighs, slumping where he's sat.
"I can wipe my own ass if that's what you're asking." Showering is difficult though, mostly because everything's slippery and disorienting in there. Honestly, Satoru kind of hates it now. He used to like long, hot showers every night after work. Wrapping himself in his bathrobe. Unfortunately, wet wipes aren't gonna be able to replace showers though.
"I do showers every other day. Depends on if I'm up for it." He shrugs.
"Twelve hours would be great." His mom interjects excitedly.
"And when do you want to start the braille lessons?”
The mention of braille has Satoru's brows furrowing. "Mom, I told you I don't feel like—"
"Satoru."
Damn, she sounds almost pissed now. That was, what, the seventh time she's said his name in that tone today? He's losing count. "Whatever. Fine. We can start whenever."
Sukuna watches them interact, a bit amused that Satoru says he doesn't need Sukuna's help wiping his ass. It's funny how petulant he seems. "So every day other than Wednesday and Sunday, I'll be here for twelve. How early do you wake up? I'm not showing up at seven for you to wake up at eleven."
Sukuna is kind of smirking, watching Satoru sulk.
Satoru shrugs again. These conversations are always so fucking boring. He doesn't feel like mentioning that he doesn't sleep much in the first place, Sukuna will figure that out himself soon enough. "You can come at nine like Tsukiya."
"Nine to nine. Alright." Sukuna sits back, tapping his schedule into his phone and messaging his supervisor about his hours. He looks at Satoru's mother, then at him, "Are you going to be here the whole time?" He asks the woman bluntly.
She stutters once, then clears her throat to compose herself, "No, not with you around-"
"Are you leaving now, or are you staying for today?"
She purses her lips at his tone, but soldiers through, "I was going to head out soon." When she knows Satoru won't scare Sukuna off . "I just wanted to get everything set up with you first." Because Satoru is being stubborn.
Satoru perks up a little. Huh. The guy isn't afraid of his mother in the slightest, that's a nice change. An enemy of his mother is his friend, or something.
"Mom's way too busy being rich to take care of me." His tone is mocking. "So she pays other people to babysit her precious Toru."
The woman sighs, rubs at her face again, and Satoru grins. It's the truth, isn't it? It's how it's always been ever since he was little. He thought he'd finally be rid of that when he started university. Now here he is.
Sukuna snorts incredulously. Getting family drama on the first day. He's not surprised. "Well. Then you can leave ma'am. I'm his caretaker, not both of yours. And if you do my job for me, as much as that's fine by me, it's your money in the end." The look she turns to him is scathing for a moment before it evens out politely.
"I'll take my leave then." She tries to look as put together as she can as she stands and gathers her things. "Be good, Toru. You can't just keep scaring everyone away."
Sukuna makes a small noise at that, almost like he's thinking of an inside joke.
"Yeah, yeah, whatever you say." Satoru waves his hand dismissively, props his chin up with his other arm. "See ya when you decide you've got time." His grin turns wider. "Or when he quits."
He can hear her sigh again, but she doesn't say anything. Her keys jingle in her hand as she leaves. "Love you too!" He calls after her, just to be obnoxious.
When the door closes, no response from the woman, Sukuna raises a brow and leans back in the chair. He still has his phone out. "Is this going to be a, I do things, you tell me they're wrong, and then you get rid of me thing?" His voice is still so bland it should be a crime. "You don't seem to want to detail your life out."
Satoru huffs softly, narrows his eyes in the general direction of the man. Then he smirks, shows off perfect rows of pearly whites. "Depends on if you do the things right. " He challenges, hopes to get something from Sukuna other than that bored tone.
"What's the point? Not like you'd understand jackshit if I told you about my work."
"I don't care about your work anyway. I'm just here to make sure you don't chop your fingers off too." Sukuna shrugs, but he sounds more amused now. "You don't seem like you want me to read you books throughout the day."
Satoru wants to argue that he wouldn't be chopping his own vegetables even if he wasn't blind, but the hint of amusement in the man's voice catches his attention. "Do you want to read The Good Equation by Michio Kaku to me? Y'know, 'The quest for a Theory of Everything'. That one." He knows full well Sukuna's most likely never heard of it. Quantum physics.
"I've heard it's a good read. But it's not really on my list of things to do, no." Sukuna looks at him, finally putting his phone down on the table. "I'm not going to read a physics book to a physicist. That's just asking for trouble." Sukuna prefers medical sciences, but he's always gotten ridiculously high grades and he has a bit of a hunger for knowledge.
Oh. "Oh?" Satoru's eyebrows raise, either the guy's done his homework, or he actually knows what he's talking about. "I'm halfway through it. The guy reading the audiobook annoys the shit out of me though."
Satoru resists the urge to comment about how he'd prefer Sukuna's voice reading to him. For all he knows the guy is mad ugly.
"Sucks to be you then." Sukuna laughs. "I hate audiobooks, they talk too slowly, or they pause at stupid times." He stands up to look around the kitchen more freely. Satoru's mother breathing down his neck was a pain, but he's used to it.
"Tell me about it." Satoru finds himself smiling. Sukuna's laugh is as pretty as his voice, does funny things to his stomach he doesn't even want to admit. It's stupid, he's got no idea what the guy looks like.
"That's exactly my issue." He agrees, nodding. He can hear Sukuna stand up, the chair scraping against the kitchen tile, but he doesn't say anything about it. He stares at the darkness in front of him, tries to imagine the man standing in his kitchen, but he doesn't have anything to go off of. "How tall are you?"
"Around 185 cm." Sukuna says absently as he looks in the fridge, seeing what ingredients are there for when he has to cook for the guy. "I have strawberry blond hair, leaning on the pink side, and red eyes. That answer what you were going to ask next?"
"I wasn't." Satoru grumbles, but he was curious. They're about the same height then, though he's got a few centimetres on the guy, which feels good. Strawberry blond hair... What kind of guy has pink hair? The idea makes Satoru wrinkle his nose. He can hear the condiment bottles in his fridge rattle as Sukuna opens it. Satoru stands, makes his way over with two long strides. In his own apartment he moves relatively confidently. If he focuses, he can practically see the space around him. Or at least, the memory of it.
His shoulder bumps into Sukuna's as he reaches out, grabs an iced coffee. Second compartment from the top in the door. His fridge is stocked, he'd sent Tsukiya shopping just yesterday. It's one of those big fancy ones with two doors and an ice cube dispenser.
Sukuna looks at him and at his shoulder that was bumped. He saw the file of how tall Satoru is, but it's different to see in person. 'Well, I'll keep the rest to myself then." He says as he looks at the iced coffee, then around to the cupboards. "I won't move things from their designated spots. What do you dislike eating?" Easier to ask dislikes and what to avoid than things he likes. Or at least that's how Sukuna looks at it.
As a man who will pretty much eat anything (there are some exceptions), he doesn't understand, but he knows he has to ask.
"Bell peppers are gross." Satoru grimaces, and he sounds like a petulant child. He unscrews the cap of the iced coffee and takes a swig. Salted caramel macchiato. Shoko used to call him a freak for liking coffee that's basically just milk and sugar.
"I don't like spicy..." He thinks for a moment. "If you cook something and the sauce is slimy I will throw up."
"If you do, you're cleaning it. Since you can wipe your own ass, you can clean your own vomit." Sukuna snorts, still amused as he notes down what not to make. "Do you like salty, savoury, or sour food? Umami? I suppose you don't like Udon for the slime."
Satoru pouts, but it's forced. Really, he's liking the way Sukuna seems to have a comeback ready for just about everything he's throwing at him.
He thinks for a moment, sipping his coffee as he leans against the counter, hand splayed out against the marble, feeling the cool, smooth surface against his palm. "If you want to make something I really like, you'll have to bake." He muses. "I like ramen though."
"I'm cooking you more than ramen, as long as it's not on your dislikes, you're eating it. I only bake on special occasions or when I'm apologising." Sukuna watches Satoru unashamedly. It's not like he can get caught staring. "Luckily though, I like ramen too, so I'll make it today to be nice." He's not a nice guy, but he'll make the joke.
"You better make some damn good ramen..." Satoru wrinkles his nose again. "Actually, it should be ass. So you can apologise with a cake."
"That's the thing, I don't apologise." Sukuna grins, closing the cupboards and drawers he was searching through.
Satoru can hear the grin in the man's voice. He huffs, gulps down more of his coffee. The guy's kind of funny, he'll give him that. Funny and has a nice voice. Makes Satoru wish he had any idea what the guy looks like. He's gonna have to invite Suguru and Shoko over sometime.
It's quiet for a moment. Satoru taps his fingers against the bottle of iced coffee. Usually, he'd have retreated to his room by now, but he kind of likes hearing Sukuna talk. "If there's anything else you need to make dinner we can doordash it."
"I can manage with what you have here for tonight. I'd prefer to make my own chashu for it, but I don't have enough time today, so I'll make due." Sukuna looks around the room, "I'm going to get a better grip on the house layout, your mom was breathing over my shoulder earlier. It was annoying." Before Satoru can respond, Sukuna's already wandering into the living room to look at the bookshelf and the decorations.
Satoru almost swoons a little. Funny, attractive voice, and finds his mom annoying? The guy's ticking all his boxes right now.
He sits back down at the table, pulls his phone out again. It's still a pain in the ass to use, but he manages, starts an audio recording for Shoko and Suguru. "Hey, you guys should totally come over tomorrow. Or the day after that. Whenever you're free. But you should totally come over. Just because." He has a tendency to ramble, so he keeps going, about the coffee he's having, about how he's going to have ramen for dinner. In the end the audio is probably over a minute long, but he sends it anyway.
"Cigarette emoji, thumbs up" the robot lady reads to him, and Satoru snorts. He waits for a minute to see if Suguru will respond too, but if memory serves him right, he's got meetings happening today, so that's probably why he isn't responding.
Satoru pockets the phone again, sighing dramatically to no one as he leans back. He still hasn't gotten used to having so much free time. He used to tutor on the side on top of working on his postdoctoral studies and his actual job, and he kind of misses that, too. Maybe that's something he could start up again now that he's back home. Not that he needs the money, but it's fun to explain subjects and have his student's face light up when they get it. Oh. Right. Yeah, okay, maybe he'd have to go about it a little differently now, but still.
Sukuna can absently hear him talking, but he tunes him out to give him privacy. He explores the house, the living room, the hallway, looks in the bedrooms, the bathroom, the study, and even the balcony, and tries to get a feel for where everything is. He knows not to move anything. He's worked for people with vision loss before and he used to get in shit for arranging things how he wanted (just to be an ass). Now he only does it sometimes and to people he knows well.
When Sukuna comes back into the kitchen, he leans in the doorway, "What would you prefer I call you?"
"If you call me Gojo-san I will find you, and I will beat you up." Satoru threatens. "Do you like the view from the living room?" People are usually impressed by that. Big windows, floor to ceiling, the view is pretty great.
"Satoru then." Sukuna says with a raised brow. "I prefer informality as well. The view's nice." And that's all he says on that. "Do you want me to leave you alone for the hours of the day you don't need me?" Some clients want to spend the whole day with him, others want nothing to do with him. He honestly can't tell which one Satoru will be.
Satoru sighs, like this is the worst conversation he's ever had to hold with anyone (it isn't, not by a long shot, he's had to come out to his parents, that was way worse and will probably take the cake for the rest of his life). "If it were up to me you wouldn't even be here."
"I figured." Sukuna snorts, still amused. "Going to make me sit in the corner until absolutely necessary?" He walks into the room and sits down again. "I still get paid, but I might get a shitty performance review and that looks bad on my record."
"Oh boo hoo." Satoru rolls his eyes. "They're paying you to sit around, you poor thing."
Sukuna looks at him and just sighs like he's been insulted by a child. "Woe is me. I'll just be on my phone then." The couch is probably more comfortable, so he takes his phone, grabs his supply bag, and sits on the couch. He spreads out comfortably and starts aimlessly scrolling social media.
Satoru ends up sauntering into his office. It's lined with books, and it's painful to think they're all useless to him now. He's thought about throwing them away, but at least they look nice, right? He ends up grabbing his headphones and listening to an audiobook from his computer, though the guy reading doesn't have a voice nearly as nice as Sukuna. He's still there by the time dinner rolls around, leaning back in his desk chair with his hands folded over his chest, eyes closed as he listens to what is, frankly, a rather shitty theory about the space-time continuum.
Sukuna started cooking a bit earlier so that it'd be ready before he got Satoru's attention, so he puts the ramen (with the works) in bowls and sets them at the table. The office is quiet, but Sukuna knows he's in here. He's almost hopeful that he startles him with the tap to his shoulder.
Satoru would've jumped more if it wasn't for the smell of food that's started wafting through the apartment. So he sort of expected Sukuna to show up soon. The headphones mean he doesn't hear nor feel the vibration of his footsteps. So he does startle a little. Definitely doesn't gasp though, nuh uh.
"What?" He's pulling the headphones off his head, hitting the space-bar to pause the audiobook mid sentence.
"Dinner." Sukuna glances once at the screen, curious what he's listening to, but looks away when he learns. "Why else would I be getting you?"
Ugh. Satoru's quickly learning that Sukuna's also kind of really annoying.
"Yeah, yeah, whatever. Your ramen better be good." He shoulders past the man, albeit more clumsily than he would've two months ago when he could still see. It does smell nice. Satoru takes his usual seat, feeling for the bowl in front of him on the table.
Sukuna's pleased he put the bowl in the right spot, sitting in the other spot. "Will you fire me, if not?" He waits for Satoru to start eating to do so himself. "Or is there going to be a baking ultimatum?"
Satoru finds the chopsticks, picking them up. He's gotten better at feeding himself. At first it was kind of a struggle, but now the chopsticks feel a lot more like extensions of his fingers.
He rolls his eyes at Sukuna's words, jabs his chopsticks in the general direction of the man. "If it's shit, you're getting fired." He threatens, and then he digs in. Shovels a load of noodles into his mouth, makes a surprised noise when he also gets some nori and green onion, and bamboo shoots on the first bite. Wow.
He grumbles a quiet "I guess it's alright" and continues to eat.
Sukuna chuckles. "You're a brat," but he eats his own in relative quiet after that. Satoru's lucky he had the ingredients. Well, Sukuna's lucky, since this guy seems adamant that he'd fire him for a bad meal. "If I make you a cake will you warm up to me faster?" He teases, not expecting an answer.
"Am not." Satoru fires back petulantly. The ramen is good, but that doesn't mean anything. It's only been a few hours. Sukuna's gonna fuck something up, surely. They always do. The last guy lectured him about his sugar intake. Satoru fired him on the spot.
He perks up noticeably though at the mention of cake. "Only if it's got strawberries. Lots of ‘em."
Sukuna sucks his teeth and shakes his head but responds, "I'll think about it."
When he's done eating, he waits patiently for Satoru to be done before he does the dishes. "Did I pass the first test?" His voice is smug. He knows he's a good cook.
"You think this was a test?" Satoru scoffs softly. "Cooking me dinner? Please." It totally was a test, but he's not going to admit that.
"What time is it?"
Sukuna watches him, seeing right through it, but not calling him out. "Five to seven. Have somewhere to be?" He jokes in bad taste.
Satoru's eyes narrow, brows furrowing. "Real funny." There's no humour in his tone. Asking Sukuna's just faster than pulling out his phone. "There's this show on at eight today. Firefighters."
"Hm." Sukuna responds and nods, "Alright. I'll have to head out around then, for my shift, but I'll be back in the morning for the twelve hours. Do you want to do your routine by yourself tonight?" The lack of humour in the response tells Sukuna what he needs to know and he files it away. Testing the limits.
"I'll be fine." Satoru waves him off. It'll take a while, but he'll manage. It's easier to do now that he's back home in familiar surroundings, honestly. In the hospital he had a hard time figuring out where things were.
Sukuna hums in acknowledgement, a low sound as he finishes cleaning all of the dishes and starts drying them. "Do you drink hot coffee? Or just cold?" It seems out of the blue.
"Hot coffee in the morning, iced coffee during the day, tea in the evening." Satoru lists them off on his fingers, acts like that makes perfect sense. It does, to him.
"I'll pick you up something on the way in then. What do you take in it?"
"You can get me a white chocolate mocha." Satoru grins. "With an extra pump of white chocolate."
Sukuna sighs, already regretting it, but he agrees, "You seem to like sweets a fair bit. I'll keep that in mind." He heads into the living room once he's done in the kitchen, pretty sure Satoru will follow so he can wait for the firefighters. He pauses for a second when he realizes that Satoru watches shows about firefighters, and he wonders if he's gay or bi. Straight men don't count the hours until they can watch something like that. It's not his business, but he files it away as well.
"You're getting a small mocha, I'm not paying for a big one."
Satoru pouts, following Sukuna into the living room. "I'm gonna pay you back for it if it's an issue." He offers. "I'll give you a tip if you bring me two cake pops as well." This is basically bribery.
"You'll pay for them?" Sukuna sounds interested, waiting for Satoru to sit on the couch so he doesn't accidentally take his spot or something. "I'll get you the cake pops if a tip is involved."
"Yeah." Satoru flops down on the couch, spread out across its L-shape in the most annoying way possible — across all of it. Hell, if Sukuna gets him coffee and cake pops he'll happily give him double what he paid for. Not like he can't afford it.
Sukuna tsks at the way he takes up so much of the couch. He leans on the arm of it instead of sitting properly, perched and typing the order into his phone. "Next time you need groceries, I'm getting them, so I can cook things properly and more efficiently. What's his name buys shitty brands." He doesn't remember the other guy's name, and doesn't care to.
"Tsukiya?" Satoru hums. He's mildly interested. Anything to give the guy shit for is good. "What's shitty brands mean, exactly?"
"Yeah him. It's off brands or brands that don't cook as well. Certain brands of tofu crumble when they're not supposed to, or noodles are sticky when they shouldn't be. It's all about quality. He seemingly went half and half on quality and quantity. Either a lot of shitty things, or very few good things so they balance into an extremely unequal ingredient list that can make the meal seem less cohesive." Sukuna doesn't look up from his phone as he explains casually.
"Hm." Satoru thinks about it for a moment, then shrugs. "Sure. You can do the shopping from now on. In fact, I'll give you one of my cards, how about it?"
That gets Sukuna to look up from his phone. "There's a receipt system and I have to use my money and get repaid by the company. If you give me the card, we skip that step I guess. I'll only take it on grocery days." His eyes are narrowed. It's a lot to give a worker on his first shift, and it feels like another test.
"Boooring!" Satoru fake yawns dramatically. He doesn't like doing things by the book, and he was kind of hoping Sukuna didn't either.
"If I give it to you you can get me coffee every morning, can't you? It's not like I won't notice if you try to steal my money."
"Fair point." Sukuna chuckles, "You're really going to give me one of your credit cards? Damn. I respect that." It'll make it easier to pick him up anything he wants in the morning anyway.
"M’yeah." Satoru's stuffing a pillow under his head. "But not tonight, I don't feel like it."
"You're..." Sukuna starts the insult, but stops himself. "Have fun with your show, I'm going to do paperwork." It's a pain to do, but he needs to get it started anyway. Just for the start of the employment. He'll bring it to his supervisor before work tomorrow. The couch creaks as he gets off of the arm and grabs his bag to pull out the stack of papers, he clicks the end of his pen three times, and goes to start writing at the table.
Satoru hums, patting across the couch in search of the remote. He put it somewhere here last night, he swears. It takes him a solid thirty seconds to find it, and another few seconds to feel for the buttons and figure out which way to hold it is right. He's never paid much attention to the exact layout of it, so suddenly having to is still weird.
He elects to ignore Sukuna, turns on the TV. Thank god for audio description. He's been keeping up with this show for the last three years, he'd hate to not get to watch the rest of it. He turns the volume up louder, just to see if it'll annoy Sukuna enough for him to say something, and gets more comfortable on the couch.
The volume is indeed a bit of a pain, but Sukuna doesn't mention anything, he doesn't let Satoru win. He finishes his paperwork and stands up, packing everything away. He walks back into the main room, looking at the TV and only mildly appreciating the view on the screen.
"Goodnight, I'll be back in the morning." He's already putting his shoes on, not waiting for Satoru to respond. "Don't trip in the shower when I'm not here." It's tacked on and his grin is audible again.
It's just starting to get interesting when Sukuna interrupts him. The joke isn't appreciated. Satoru gives him (or at least his general direction) the finger without turning around. "If you forget my coffee you're fired."
Sukuna chuckles and looks at the rude hand sign. "I won't."
