    Summary

Eddie Diaz: father, veteran, firefighter, gay. It’s that easy. A descriptor, a word that Eddie’s spent his entire life running from.

It’s a fucking relief to realise now that he’s stopped running. The burn in his muscles will linger, but it’s okay. It will serve as a reminder of how far he’s come.

Beside him, Buck huffs a laugh. “I can’t believe you did a honky tonk dance.”

Eddie laughs, startled. “I can’t believe you didn’t."

Or: on the drive back to Los Angeles, Eddie works up the courage to tell Buck the truth.

    Summary

Jesus,” Eddie says, breathless. To everyone else it must sound like he’s just sighing at the outcome of the game, but Buck laughs beside him again, a deep rumble from his chest, and oh fuck. Eddie’s the one who’s not going to survive the night.

He looks down at his lap and almost groans out loud at the way Buck’s hand is just resting there like this is a common occurrence, like he doesn’t have Eddie half-hard in public.

...or, the poker game is too much. For both of them.

    Summary

Bobby’s looking at him, eyebrows raised, like he’s saying spit it out, kid, and Eddie breathes out, out, out, and tries not to touch his pocket, where the ring box is settled.

“I don’t know how to do this,” he says through a laugh, a nervous little thing that bubbles out of his throat. He focuses somewhere in between both of their shoulders, too amped up to look at either of them. “I wanted to ask you something. About Buck.”

...or, before Eddie proposes, he goes to Bobby and Athena.
