"Dennis lifted his eyes from the black tile for a millisecond, instinctively responding to a voice that had somehow carried its tenor across the club and directly to his ears.
“Look at me,” it calls, and he is trained to answer, but he doesn’t register why until he sees him.
His eyes immediately turned back to the floor as he realized he had just broken A Rule, and he reacted to the voice because Doctor-Fucking-Robby is speaking lowly to a kneeling sub.
Dennis jolts himself out of the memory, blinking rapidly to ground himself. He is still in his living room, even though he just had the craziest fucking realization of his life–
It could work, he could just… ask Robby if he knew about anywhere similar, he probably has been in the scene for a while and has some recommendations, or maybe even knew some online places where he could ease himself back into things, he can just walk into his next shift and pull him away for a second."

Summary
Dennis lays in the bed with a stillness so absolute it feels staged. A ventilator breathes for him in measured sighs, the sound too rhythmic to be human. It almost looks like he’s a kid pretending to sleep in the backseat of his parents’ car, hoping to be carried inside by strong paternal arms.
Robby would do anything for that to be the case. Instead, it is sedation that has smoothed away the sharpness from Dennis’s features.
It is a heart attack that has made him so still.
Or,
Dennis Whitaker fails to clear and gets shocked by a defibrillator. He takes it as a punishment for sinful eyes that can't seem to look away from Dr. Robby and decides not to tell anyone. The ER keeps moving, but Dennis's heart doesn't. It terribly, horribly doesn't.

“I put in 1095, but it won’t turn off!” Dennis shrieks, trying to be heard over the sound of the alarm. He knows that he didn’t get the numbers wrong because he’s staring right at them on the crumpled sticky note. “What am I doing wrong?”
“Did you push the off button?”
Dennis looks at the keypad, not seeing anything that says Off. “What?!”
“Put the code in and push the pound sign after.”
Dennis does as he’s told, except, in his panic, he hits the asterisk instead. “Shit.”
“It’s the hashtag,” Robby says, sounding entirely put out.
“I know what a pound sign is,” Dennis grumbles, hitting the button and noticing the word Off in the smallest font known to man under the #.

Feels pressure in his chest that wasn’t there before. Or wasn’t as noticeable before. Has been there, for the last couple weeks, if he’s honest with himself. Is worse now. Thought he pulled something, when it first started bugging him. Isn’t so sure now. Because he’s been babying it and it hasn’t gone away yet. Only seems to be getting worse, in fact. Was so sure he just tweaked it moving a patient or sleeping wrong. Did something to it by committing the cardinal sin of being an adult human with a body.
