"It’s a vampire.”
It wakes Tom up like nothing else ever could. “Where?!” He startles forward, reaching for the knife at his waist and looking around to find the monster that somehow got inside their house, when Ron’s hands push him down into the chair, gentle but insistent.
“On our table!”
Tom’s head snaps to the side to find the- uhm, to see the toddler that’s been sitting there the whole time, but now he’s also smiling, baby teeth and two sharp fangs peeking out under his upper lip. The little creature looks at Tom and giggles.
Or; sometimes, the monster is only human too.

“So what’s your poison, sweetheart?” The voice on his other side startles him, coming from his blind spot with his head turned like it is. He flinches, and doesn’t relax at all when he looks at the man, a strong arm lying on the counter, sharp features framing a smirk that doesn’t seem to hold any humor anymore.
It takes Ice another second to realize the meaning of the words, to register the tone - not a threat, not an accusation or mockery, but something… something he’s not sure he knows the name of.
Or, Ice is having a truly terrible week, and then he meets someone who offers to make it all better. But what should’ve been just a quick distraction ends up having a lot more consequences.

“She’s beautiful,” he manages to say when the Kawasaki comes clearly into view, finally voicing another one of the many compliments he’s never had the opportunity or the guts to actually give Maverick.
“She’s not the only one,” Maverick responds, openly looking at him from the corner of his eye, and Ice is instantly certain that there’s no chance he’s not blushing.
Or; through contemplating the murder of his squadmates and bullshitting football metaphors, Ice finds his way into Captain Mitchell’s bed.

“Are you actually hard right now?” he demands, still frustrated, and maybe just a little bit fascinated.
“Uhm… no?” Mav guesses, like he can’t feel his own dick pressing into Ice’s thigh. When Ice levels a glare at him, he at least has the decency to wince. “I’m getting there.”
“How?” Ice wants to know next. “Maverick, we’re locked in a closet. How are you hard right now?”
Or, Ice and Mav go to a Navy ball and make a mess by trying to stay out of trouble.

He’s standing above Simon, sweaty and out of breath, hazel eyes staring down at him like he’s looking at a ghost. “Ice?” he gasps, broad chest heaving. There’s something haunted in his expression, a strange kind of fear, maybe, so perhaps he’s the ghost between the two of them.
But undead or not, Simon scoffs at him either way and reaches for the cane lying under his leg. “No, I don’t need ice.”
“I- You- Does the name Kazansky mean anything to you?”
Simon can feel his eyebrows rising. It’s him who fell, but it sounds like this guy’s the one who hit his head. “I can’t say that it does, no.” He shakes his head slowly. “What is that, Polish? Russian?”
Or; Simon lives his life haunted, but he never expected to become a ghost for someone else.

As far as naval air stations went, Maverick only had good things to say about Miramar. And the only good thing was that Commander Metcalf didn't bounce Mav as soon as he did something stupid. Oh, wait. No. He wasn't a commander anymore. Fancy pants admiral over there.
Maverick returns, as a favor, to teach at TOPGUN. His students are great; they're some of the best naval aviators in the world. One of them is all legs, gorgeous tanned skin, blonde... Just his type. Maverick had a problem.
