Summary
Across different possibilities, the many ways Essek Thelyss did not fall in love with Caleb Widogast, and one way he did.
After dying in Aeor, Essek finds himself (unexpectedly, as an atheist) with a second chance at life. The problem is that he has no idea what to do with it.While the Nein leave to pursue their own goals, Essek seeks to put the pieces of his life back together, and find where he fits when he is neither Shadowhand, nor traitor, nor member of the Nein. For something so complicated, it is as simple as things come. Caleb's home is shared with hope and longing, but he understands Essek's fleeting presence better than anyone else. Essek can't stop himself from coming back to Caleb every chance he gets. Building a home, they find, happens in steps. Slowly. Carefully.
Especially when one of them is a war criminal on the run from two nations who may very well want him dead.

Summary
Caleb is struck with a thought– an image really– arriving fully-formed and without warning. The pink of his own thumbs, pressed firmly into lavender skin. Pointed towards a navel, towards each other, his hands would form an arch like that of a temple.
Essek would look so lovely in Caleb’s lap, held close and admired properly.
Three hundred and forty-four seconds.
Caleb has to get out of this hug right now. Essek is trying to say "goodbye, be safe, I will see you soon." Essek’s body is not trying to tell him anything.
