Summary
Jamie Tartt was driving Roy insane, and he hadn’t even seen the man in weeks. To be fair, he was going plenty insane without Jamie’s influence, but it definitely didn’t help.
And Jamie was fucking brilliant on the pitch. Right foot kissed by god and the instincts of a killer. His goal against Liverpool still made a regular appearance in Roy’s dreams. He could go so fucking far, and he was getting fired over stupid shit like this? What the hell was he thinking?
It was only after cleaning the entire kitchen and a sink full of dishes that Roy remembered. He had left football behind him, and he did not care at all about Jamie Tartt.

Summary
"Roy Kent! I was just—" His eyes darted over to the poster on the wall across from him. Roy didn't have to look to know what it was. Roy Kent, age 24. Ridiculous shag mullet, a football tucked under his foot, and a mean glare on his face. Jamie was fucking obsessed with it.
"You've been bad," Roy told him. This was the hardest part for him at the start, he felt guilty being mean to him like this after everything, but Jamie had begged him for it. And when Jamie begged, Roy always gave in.

Summary
The two of them tumble through the echoing hallways of the rundown hospital that is their home, at least for one more night. Sam is tucked under Fred’s shoulder, theoretically supporting his weight, except all he’s really doing is ensuring that their bodies are touching at nearly every point. Sam is warm against him, shoulders and hips and thighs all pressed close.

Summary
Jamie had been quiet today. Not like dead silent, just... quiet. None of his usual quips or jokes—the few he made were only at his own expense which was unusual enough on its own—he wasn’t goofing off in the locker room with the lads, just sat quietly in front of his corner cubby, a sour look on his face.
-----
Or, the one where Jamie is assaulted and doesn't tell anyone, refusing to even acknowledge what happened. Until Roy notices how weird he's acting, and makes it his life's mission to figure out the reason why.

Summary
If there’s one emotion Roy knows inside and out, it’s anger. Since he was small, his coaches have been telling him how to harness it on the pitch. He’s been told what to do with it off the pitch even longer. The problem is that he’d made the anger his whole person, because who is Roy Kent if he’s not a football player? If he’s not an elite athlete fueled by rage and determination? Now that he isn't on the pitch, Roy doesn’t need all that anger the same way, and without it, he’s not sure what’s left.
Or, Roy goes the therapy after Man City and gets his shit together.

Summary
“Jamie went up to Manchester.”
“You miss him.”
“No.”
Yes.
“Jamie went up to Manchester to see his father.”
Ruth’s expression, which had lit up with teasing fondness at the thought of Roy missing his best friend, falls back into concern at this. She knows about Jamie’s dad, a bit anyway. She’d entertained Roy’s request, after Wembley, to be the one to take Phoebe to school in the morning, but asked that he stop by hers after and pulled an explanation from him. She’d sat with him in the kitchen and reminded him that they’d broken the cycle for Phoebe. He’d done everything he could for them. Maybe all he could do for Jamie at that time was a hug, but he’d done it. He’d done everything he could.
Roy knows Jamie better now, though. He should be able to do more for him. He should be able to fix this.
“I just wish I could make things better for him,” Roy admits.
“You always do."Or, I have a lot of feelings about the finale trying to give James Tartt Sr. a half-assed redemption arc, and I think that Roy Kent would, too.

Summary
Sometimes it feels like the universe gave him Jamie. A mirror into his younger idiot self. A chance to learn some hard lessons and be a better person, usually, for them, a chance to pass on some hard-won wisdom and set Jamie up, hopefully, for avoiding some of Roy’s old mistakes.
A budding generational talent to prop up Roy’s first season as manager, the glue that binds the team together, and he’s spoiled for it and taking still more because Christ, how is he supposed to turn away what Jamie’s so eager to offer?
He’s a brute, the worst sort of sleaze in professional sports, but it’s just so fucking easy.
