His plan had been the same for the past six years: graduate high school, serve the minimum four years in the military for an honorable discharge, save every bit of money possible to pay for college debt-free, get an engineering degree, land a cushy job, enjoy the ride. Lucas Parker returns to Ferngill from military service in Gotoro, but everything is wrong. His sister moved to the tiniest town in the country to start a farm; his aspirations and sanity have been shredded by nightmares of captivity and monsters; his dead lover haunts him, maybe literally. The only reprieve he finds is in the pages of books, and the only semblance of safety he feels is in the presence of the local beach hermit author. Lucas is trying desperately to leave the war behind, but the war, unfortunately, finds a way to follow him to his new home.
