Summary
The new abbot is a sight of temptation. Father Bruce of Gotham—that’s how the bishop introduces him. Clark follows with dread as the brothers rise and, one by one, go up to greet the new head of the abbey. He cuts a dashing figure; tall and dark-haired, with a face like the beautiful sculpted angels adorning the sanctuary columns. Serene and serious.
Clark flees into the arms of the Church, finding clarity in its rules, trying to bury the part of him that God surely condemns. The arrival of a captivating new abbot and the appearance of a mysterious masked angel shake both his heart and his faith.
