Summary
Robby was supposed to leave for his sabbatical and not think about this place for months. It was all he wanted, all he thought about for the past year working at the ED.
But then, as he's leaving after a long friday shift, he finds Dennis passed out on the parking lot, his mouth smeared with blood and his skin pale. Robby rushes to help him, to give him the primary care he was trained to give as a doctor.
Only Dennis didn't have a heartbeat. And yet, he opened his eyes.

“Trin, what is Dr. Robby’s full name?” he knows he sounds crazy. And panicked. And like he’s choking on his tears (which he almost is). But he needs to know.
“Huh? Why do you need to know?”
“Please, it’s important”, he’s slowly losing his breath, his lungs stuttering inside his chest.
“His last name is Robinavitch, as for his first name, I have no idea. What do you need it for?”
“Michael. His name is Michael”, then he hangs up, not waiting for Trinity’s response. He leans his head on his knees, trying to catch a breath, but to no avail.

Summary
Dennis lays in the bed with a stillness so absolute it feels staged. A ventilator breathes for him in measured sighs, the sound too rhythmic to be human. It almost looks like he’s a kid pretending to sleep in the backseat of his parents’ car, hoping to be carried inside by strong paternal arms.
Robby would do anything for that to be the case. Instead, it is sedation that has smoothed away the sharpness from Dennis’s features.
It is a heart attack that has made him so still.
Or,
Dennis Whitaker fails to clear and gets shocked by a defibrillator. He takes it as a punishment for sinful eyes that can't seem to look away from Dr. Robby and decides not to tell anyone. The ER keeps moving, but Dennis's heart doesn't. It terribly, horribly doesn't.
