His chest ached, his ribs burned with every inhale, but he didn’t stop. He pushed harder, like he was trying to outrun his own skin, his own thoughts, the oppressive weight of expectation and loneliness and inability to control what’s coming next that claws at him as soon as the sun goes down and it’s time to sleep.
