Summary
In the spring of 1938, Rose and Atticus Aldridge are facing a new threat that has been brewing for a long time. As the Nazis are taking over the continent, they’re fighting against the clock to keep their extended family safe. Rose enlists her relations at Downton to help make a new, temporary home for displaced Jewish refugee children being brought to safety on the Kindertransport. And when WWII breaks out shortly after, the lives of all the Crawleys are changed forever.
More than 85 years later, an eager young graduate student stumbles head-first into a piece of family history and pieces together the tale of how Downton and the family spent the war years. While Rose and Atticus adopt two Kindertransport children, George is eager to become an RAF pilot (much to the disdain of his mother), Sybbie volunteers with the Women's Auxiliary Territory Service (and eventually teaches the girl who would later become Queen Elizabeth to drive), and her little half-brother has a crush for the very first time ... among other things.
