Each word lands like a hit, and Naim is so—so upset, so blind-sided, so betrayed that Ryan could feel this way, that he yells, "We are perversions of God! That's the only thing I learned from Him, Ryan. We are the perversions. It doesn't matter what this says—" he flings the flyer to the ground, the new crease underlining All are welcome "—God will never, ever love us."
Ryan regains his footing, shaking his head before Naim's done speaking. "That's not true." Naim scoffs again, which only seems to spur Ryan on. "He does. I know He does. You know how?"
"Fucking how, Ryan?"
"Because He gave me you."

“Yeah but. Do you want me to have the ring?” Naim asks. The sides of his lips are all cut up, melting into the swollen gash of his mouth. The entire left side of his face is scraped from being forced onto the concrete. It’s ghastly. He’s still the prettiest person Ryan’s ever seen.
Naim’s really asking if he wants him or not, and Ryan does, of course he does. “Of course,” says Ryan.
Somehow, there are much more monstrous things in the world than the demon who wears Naim's face. Once they pledge their commitment to one another, Ryan finds out just how much.
