He kisses her differently that night.
Before, under the distant glow of the full moon (always a full moon), his lips presses against hers, cold and unfeeling. Her tongue lashes against his fangs like a whip. He draws blood, lapping at the tainted cultivator blood that trickles down her chin, his nails piercing through silk and armor to dig crimson half-moons into her skin. They struggle. Against the weight of his armor, she palms a dagger, slides it up the gap under his armpit, and silences him with a thrust, though thanks to his heart protection scale, he will ultimately fail to die. The gasps and gurgles that ensue as he bleeds in undeath are a welcome lullaby to her ears.
Tonight though, instead of biting, his jaws yield, allowing her to claim his tongue and plunder the warmth from his very breath.

The first thing Kui Niu noticed was that the newcomer had not come in chains. Nor did he cower or whimper or beg the prison guard for his life. The newcomer walked with a lordly stride, his steps unhurried, as firm as earth, as resolute as the sea. An illusion of serenity was only betrayed by the hands that curled into fists and a stubborn chin that barely concealed a snarl when a cultivator shoves him into the cell.

Shen Yuan died and woke up as an invisible floating entity bound to the protagonist of his least favorite trash novel. The System's rules are simple: keep Luo Binghe alive, or face permanent soul deletion. It sounds like a straightforward escort mission. Shen Yuan is fully prepared to protect the sweet, innocent white lotus from the cruelties of the cultivation world.
There is only one problem. Luo Binghe is already a manipulative, terrifyingly observant child.
Shen Yuan was supposed to be a guardian angel. Now, he desperately needs his own guardian angel to survive being the prized possession of a very clingy, thoroughly unhinged protagonist.
