“You know full well what this report says,” Caitlyn counters, tapping the form still face up on the desk. “But I have no issue going over it for you, of course. Today alone you have managed a hostile encounter with a colleague, a breach of protocol regarding potential workplace injury, defiance of a direct order, and a complaint of excessive force deployed against a member of the public.”
“Member of the public? That scumbag was a fucking hexgem smuggler who—”
“Would you like to add insubordination to the list, officer?”
Vi shuts up.
Caitlyn leans back in her chair, assessing. “You’re a good enforcer, Vi, as much as you seem to want to deny it. You have the kind of skills we can’t teach — fine instincts, a quick mind, real dedication to protecting those who can’t protect themselves. I know you want to do good out there. I know that you can. Your issue—”
“Great, yeah, tell me what my issue is,” Vi mutters, flustered.
“—is temperamental,” Caitlyn finishes, coolly. Then, surprisingly, she smirks. “Luckily for us both, that’s something I’m more than capable of addressing.”
