Summary
Including “for better, for worse, for richer, for poorer, in sickness and in health,” he had said, perhaps, a hundred words to her since they met: a four word greeting with a bow when arrived at her parent’s house after weeks of written discussions and negotiations with her father; a six word inquiry before the day itself, “are you sure of this, Miss Connolly?” with her ensuing assurance met only with a sharp nod; and then, their longest conversation to date, his musings on the blasted weather. Yes, it certainly was an unusually chilly March.

Summary
“Do you want anything?” she blurted out, wanting ever so desperately for Rupert not to regret his decision in staying. To keep him there, in her kitchen, as long as he’d let her. She then caught what she had said, and saw his gaze dart down to her lips, so she screwed her eyes shut and shook her head. “I mean, a tea or . . . something. I don’t have Bournvita.”
He was looking down at her with the most curious expression on his face, a small smile spreading across his features. He’d been so soft, so wonderful, so unlike the Rupert that he was with other people, that she felt her walls caving in. He then swallowed thickly, his fingers twitching at his side. She saw his hand flex, as though he was resisting the urge to reach out. God, she wanted him to touch her. “How are you going to boil the kettle, angel?”
